Subject: Review: The Boat Band in Sandbach From: Will Fly Date: 28 Nov 08 - 11:21 AM I'm just back in deepest Sussex after a few days with old friends in Cheshire. The main purpose of the visit was to touch base with Greg Stephens and his band, The Boat Band, at Sandbach Folk Club on Tuesday evening. (Hadn't seen Greg for over 40 years). The verdict? Absolutely wonderful - the first half was mainly from their Cajun/Zydeco/Creole rep, and the second half mainly from their Lakeland tunes rep. The Sandbach club, in the Market Tavern, is quite a small venue, but it was perfect for those of us in the front row! The combination of Greg on guitar, Tony Weatherall on accordions and Kate Barfield on fiddle was stunning, and the musicianship was excellent. A great evening. Folk clubs - book The Boat Band! |
