Yes they do put on a very good show, I opened up for them a few months ago and we had a blast.

Let me just add that Work O The Weavers is a program not to be missed. A wonderful historic review of the music and thinking of one of the core folk music groups---with, now, new songs done in the style of this root group of the Folk Music Era.

On Saturday December 6 at 8:00pm, the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club Concert Series at the Fair Lawn Community Center will present Work O' The Weavers. Opening the evening will be Joe McKay.

Work O' The Weavers is a quartet that pays tribute to The Weavers - the influential folk group of the 1950's that originally included Pete Seeger as a member. The Weavers brought folk music to national radio and TV audiences and introduced songs such as 'Goodnight Irene', 'If I Had A Hammer,' 'Midnight Special,' 'The Sloop John B, and numerous others that have become part of our collective consciousness. The seminal link between an obscure past and contemporary culture, The Weavers introduced a stream of authenticity into the current of American popular music that endures to this day.

With a faithful adherence to the Weavers' original arrangements, Work O' The Weavers presents a rousing program that employs their timeless music and an edifying narrative to recall their timely story. The concert will follow their evolution from the earlier folk revival of the 1930s, through the Almanac Singers to the founding of The Weavers late in 1948. The show also touches on the blacklist and HUAC testimony, and their triumphant 1955 Carnegie Hall reunion concert which resurrected their music and careers. Works O' The Weavers perform not only the favorite familiar songs, but also a few that The Weavers might be singing today. Work O' The Weavers is comprised of musicians David Bernz, James Durst, Martha Sandefer and Mark Murphy.

Opening the evening will be Joe McKay. Born and raised on a pig farm in Secaucus, Joe McKay has lived the rich history of the area and is a true New Jersey original.

Joe's music is deeply rooted in the late fifties and early sixties folk revival. The music of the Kingston Trio, the Limelighters, Bob Dylan and especially singer/songwriter John Stewart contributed to his traditionally based storytelling style. Joe has performed in coffeehouses throughout the Tri-State area, and was a New Folk winner at the 2002 New Jersey Folk Festival. Joe's debut CD, "Backroad Joe", was produced by critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Terence Martin
