Dose self-promotion as in pretending to be someone else and telling others how wonderful you are lead to your alter ego personality taking over your mind. Turning you into a Jecle and Hide character?

Who asked you to pipe up you wimp! How would anyone know how good you are if I didn't tell them! How else are you going to find a cheap way of promoting your Gigs! Now go and eat your tea your Fish Fingers are going cold!

Funny post, but if you use multiple personalities on Mudcat, we will delete them, other than the occasional humourous use.

How about you get out, let folks know where you are performing, and just do it by impressing fans so they speak well. Works pretty good.

We don't always notice them so we don't always delete them. Some don't seem harmful. If they get nasty, you can bet we'll notice.

Folks use a different identity because they're afraid they may suffer, even possibly when they're just stating an honest (if unpopular) opinion. Of course, a person may praise himself. It's maybe be a bit on the sad side or maybe just goofy. I don't know what motivates it. Maybe a person thinks he's putting one over on folks. If people found out, he'd probably lose people's respect, but it isn't really hurting anyone... other than the person doing it, I mean. Falsehoods take far too much effort to protect.

On the internet, they're called 'sock puppets'.

Well, I certainly have found myself a different personality when I'm on stage.
I think that's the case for a lot of people, but I don't think self-promotion does it. In many ways, a performer's self-promotion is like looking for a job - somewhat demeaning and often depressing. But on stage, I think it's usually a very positive thing.

I'm sorry to hear that Dick (Miles) I know just how attached you can get to any instrument. As I have tried to point out many times in the many threads about lending out musical instruments. No my link had to do with me using this thread to explain the "O shut up you wimp he can always claim the scorches were caused by playing too fast!" comment on my well intentioned post to Captain Birdseye thread which was meant to be a sympathetic comment from me on the concerning Dick's Fire. Dick being Dick Miles who is Captain Birdseye when he is not Dick Miles that is.

Oh and I was in Dublin at the time of the fire as all my multiple personalities will bare witness.
