My dad taught me this song "Red is the Rose"
when I was a little kid
I never knew if it was traditional or if someone wrote it

I put a version on youtube that I did but that is not my point I would like very much to know more about the song. Can anyone tell me the origins. It just brings up memories of my dad who died when I was 14.
Red is the Rose

See various past discussions here for detailed information. They can be found by typing red is the rose into the search engine ('Lyrics and Knowledge Search').

Big Mick
we can close the thread, got what I needed and don't want to junk up Mudcat. I forgot about the Message search, I kept pulling up the lyrics. The tune was published by Nathaniel Gow in 1819 Wow. very cool
