Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Triflin' Gal by Al Dexter From: GUEST Date: 10 Dec 08 - 08:56 PM Wow, thanks for the response. By the way if anybody knows what the "high-walking babe" in the lyrics means, please enlighten me. I wasn't born in America, so I have limited folksy vocabulary knowledge here. It'll be nice to know what that means back in 1940s era, I'd enjoy the song more. Thanks again, especially Gene Peter1234 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Triflin' Gal by Al Dexter From: Gene Date: 11 Dec 08 - 12:12 AM An idiom is a term or phrase whose meaning cannot be deduced from the literal definitions and the arrangement of its parts, but refers instead to a figurative meaning that is known only through common use. probably just a spur of the moment made up (slang) expression. see example below! "Lip-smackin', thirst-quenchin', ace-tastin', motivatin', good-buzzin', cool- talkin', high-walkin', fast-livin', ever-givin', cool-fizzin'... Pepsi! [in this case] |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Triflin' Gal by Al Dexter From: GUEST Date: 01 Sep 14 - 09:41 AM A "high walkin' babe" is one with ideas of a superior nature about herself. High-stepping - she doesn't want to mess with any man who is poor or badly dressed. There's verses missing on this.
