Subject: Lyr Req: Triflin' Gal by Al Dexter
From: GUEST,Peter1234

Hello, I'm looking for a place to compare with my own transcription below. This song was a country hit around 1945. Here's what I "heard", and some places didn't make sense at all... need help to clean up, and thanks ahead for your correction.

Song:Triflin' Gal   Writer:Cindy Walker   Artist:Al Dexter & His Troopers

Trifling gal, I knew you'll never be true
Trifling gal, why don't I tell you we're through
Now I already pack, and never come back
And I'd be acting smart
But I never will, because you're too
I walking baby my heart

Trifling gal, you're running my nights and my days
And I know you'll never change your way
Why do I keep loving you
When you stay on the prowl
Oh the way that you trifle so
Give me a rifle and shoot you, trifling gal

Sounds like this to me.

Song:Triflin' Gal
Writer:Cindy Walker
Artist:Al Dexter & His Troopers

Triflin' gal, I KNOW you'll never be true
Triflin' gal, why don't I tell you we're through
Now I OUGHTA pack, and never come back
THEN I'd be acting smart
But I never will, because you're STILL
THE HIGH-walking BABE OF my heart

Triflin' gal, you're RUINING my nights and my days
And I know you'll never change your WAYS
Why do I keep LOVIN' you
When you stay on the prowl
Oh the way that you trifle
OUGHTA GET me a rifle
And shoot you, [pop-pop on last verse only] triflin' gal

REPEAT BOTH VERSES

Wow, thanks for the response.
By the way if anybody knows what the "high-walking babe" in the lyrics means, please enlighten me. I wasn't born in America, so I have limited folksy vocabulary knowledge here. It'll be nice to know what that means back in 1940s era, I'd enjoy the song more.

Thanks again, especially Gene

An idiom is a term or phrase whose meaning cannot be deduced from the literal definitions and the arrangement of its parts, but refers instead to a figurative meaning that is known only through common use.

probably just a spur of the moment made up (slang) expression.

see example below!

"Lip-smackin', thirst-quenchin', ace-tastin', motivatin', good-buzzin', cool- talkin', high-walkin', fast-livin', ever-givin', cool-fizzin'... Pepsi! [in this case]

A "high walkin' babe" is one with ideas of a superior nature about herself. High-stepping - she doesn't want to mess with any man who is poor or badly dressed.

There's verses missing on this. Look up the oldest-looking video on You Tube.
