Subject: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Susan of DT Date: 19 Jun 99 - 03:31 PM Today is Dick Greenhaus's 70th birthday. He does not like a fuss, but I think decades are worth noting. He has made the Digital Tradition what it is. Without his contributions, it would still be a private collection of two peoples songs as individual files on disk. Thank you, Dick. |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 19 Jun 99 - 03:35 PM THANK YOU DICK!!!!! This is such a wonderful place, and I'm well aware of how much you do to make it possible. Bless you and Susan too. Allison |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Peter T. Date: 19 Jun 99 - 03:48 PM Dick, you have given us more good things than you can know in bringing us all the Digital Tradition. Until you came along, the only DT's were the DT's! Seriously, the best of birthdays. Yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Jeri Date: 19 Jun 99 - 05:48 PM I think the DT will one day be seen as the one of the most significant contributions to folk music in the 20th century. No, that's wrong - it already is. Maybe the most. In any event, I sure appreciate it!
Happy Birthday!!! |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Jun 99 - 08:45 PM Many thanks Dick for being a part of the creation of this wonderful place where "friendship" has taken on a new meaning for many of us, perhaps myself most of all. HAPPY BIRTHDAY and may there be a lot more!!! catspaw |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Rick Fielding Date: 19 Jun 99 - 09:01 PM Happy Birthday Dick. It was Sandy Paton who told me he'd been "looking for a community like this all his life". I thought he was being melodramatic. Nope, if anything, he was understating how I have come to feel about the Mudcat. A million thanks. Rick |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: bbc Date: 19 Jun 99 - 10:06 PM Dear Dick, I'm glad Susan told. I'm very glad to be able to wish you a happy 70th. You don't look a day over--oh, I don't know--& you're a heck of a nice guy! Hope you can come over & play banjo again sometime; I really enjoyed that! love, bbc (Barbara) |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 19 Jun 99 - 10:39 PM Surely Susan is exaggerating about the age. Perhaps she meant 50. Or maybe she's just pulling our leg. Well, Dick, whatever age you are, I do believe it is your birthday. I raise a toast in your honor. And like many others, I thank you and all the other Mudcat creators for the work you have done to make this site happen. It has been a joy and a blessing to me! Happy Birthday! Big RiB |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Banjer Date: 19 Jun 99 - 10:40 PM Happy Birthday Dick and allow me to echo the sentiments of those before me. Thanks for a wonderful experience in the form of the DT and for being a part of the creation of this community. Like the others have said, it has become more than a website to visit, it has become a second home for a lot of us where friendships have been formed that will last forever. THANKS AND A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Sandy Paton Date: 19 Jun 99 - 11:42 PM Grumble, grumph, etc. Once there were only two of us Mudcats in the seventy-class (according to the "How old is a Mudcatter" thread). Now we've gotta make room for another. Well, if it's gotta be, I'm glad it's one as congenial as the old master-Mudcatter himself. Welcome to the ranks, Dick. From up here, we can watch all those other guys playing catch-up. Happy birthday! Sandy |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Night Owl Date: 20 Jun 99 - 02:08 AM HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICK!!!! I want to take a second or two to let you know how much this place, you've been instrumental in creating, has meant in my life. I lost my brother twelve years ago in a car vs. eighteen-wheeler accident. (He was on his way home from a Contra Dance callers' workshop in Berea, Ky.) One of the major bonds, which carried into adulthood, between my brother and myself was our mutual love for traditional music and old camp songs. I could always count on him...or he on me....to remember a forgotten word, chord, verse or melody to some obscure song. His passing left a large, painful void in my life, being unable to simply pick up the phone and call him to fill in the missing words or tunes over these years, and to share the music. I stumbled onto Mudcats a few months ago and immediately felt at "HOME". THANK YOU, Dick... |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Night Owl Date: 20 Jun 99 - 02:15 AM ummm....and THANKS also for this place, where I have learned, that I can come and be guaranteed a giggle!! |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Dick From: Sandy Paton Date: 22 Jun 99 - 04:18 AM Regarding all this fancy HTML bannering: I'm reminded of Frank Proffitt's comment when asked what he thought of Scruggs banjo picking. He thought for a long moment, then quietly said "Well, I'd like to be able to do it --- and then not do it." Just kidding, guys and gals! That colorful stuff really dresses up a message, doesn't it? Sandy |
