Subject: How do I refresh an old thread

Joe Offer told me some days ago that it is better to refresh an old thread than starting a new one. But how does that work?

Will,

Just give her a call and say "Hey, it's been a long time. Want to go out for dinner?"

You never know, it might work.

Just reply to the thread with a message saying "refresh" or whatever else you want to say.
If a new message (a reply) is added to a thread, it gets a new timestamp and thus goes to the top of the thread list.

Dear Will,

I'm happy to give you an example. First find the thread you want to refresh...well that's obvious. But I'm sure you know you can find it several ways in a forum search and also by using the filter box. Then you simply make a new entry on the thread.

Let me show you. Since this is Father's Day and since I am me, I was thinking perhaps a "refreshing" thread might be one on say.....uh,let's see now,......oh, let's go with "Condoms." I'll just refresh by typing in a short message and hit submit .......VOILA!!!

See how easy it is? I'll be out hiding behind the fence 'cause I gotta' feelin' the shoes are about to start flying.

Glad to help anytime!

Surely the answer is

Girls when you're young never wed an old man.

Old threads never truly refresh, you just string them along.

ummm.... Will, is this as clear as ... mud?

If the topic has already been discussed in an 'old' thread, then find it through a forum search and submit a message to bring it back to the current page of messages.

For example, if someone asks for the lyrics or history of a song that has already been discussed, find the older discussion where the information can be found, and submit a message (you can just type one word and hit submit) to bring it to the top of the list.

OK, I'm stupid. I found the old tread I want to refresh, but how can I put it in the box 'enter message below' without retyping it?

Actually, Will, if you don't put anything in the "Enter Message Below" box and just click on the "Submit Message" button, the thread will refresh and go to the top of the forum Menu list. However, a blank message then appears with your name on it, and it makes you look kind of dumb. Ideally, you should post a new message to a thread, adding any additional information you might have.

Will,

If you just press the submit button, a new post will be made on a thread and it automatically will be at the top of the thread list. Then when you click on that, all of the prior posts become available to you.

So as Joe is saying, most people just type in refresh to let us know that the new post wasn't just an error, but was intended to bring the thread to the Forum's attention again.

Hope this clarifies this problem a bit further.
