Subject: Nothing Special (Pure B.S.)
From: Peter T.

Not supposed to be here today, but I am sick (flu) and working (sick), so I need comfort food. Every once in awhile check in to Mudcat, and there everything hums along, 20-30 postings already, katlaughing with her wise thoughts for Father's Day, skarpi checking in from iceland, catspaw keeping things hopping, Big Mick helping out, Dick G. with the big 70, Rick giving out with his usual wisdom, and there are reports from Clearwater, and tributes to fathers, new arrivals and old hands on the keyboards, California Dreaming (my God!), strange songs I have never heard of, guitar bridge problems, all kinds of weird stuff, bios about serial monogamy and multiple polygamy, and somewhere the often unsung Mudcat god is holding it all together. Everyone keeps saying it, and have said it again today, and maybe it gets a bit gooey, but it is true, so what the hell: what a great place. Hum, hum, hum, whistle.
Yours, Peter T.

Hey Peter,

Sorry you've got lumpuckerosis of the blowhole. I'm at work too. You're right about M'cat and Fielding is right about you. Feel better soon. D.

This raises an interesting question (well, it at least gets away from my credentials for fatherhood):
WHEN IS MUDCAT DAY? (I know, every day is Mudcat day). What day did the Mudcat first go on line? Can the founders tell us, or is it lost in the mists?
yours, Peter T.

Hey, Dave--back at work, I see. Is it 24 on, 24 off? And I'll have the lovely PJ to myself tonight at the Starry Plough! Since you've always been sitting on Fadac's side of the table I haven't had much of a chance to chat with you: are you a dad? Well, keep them old rich folks people in Piedmont safe, buddy.

hmmm...there was a thread from Max once, noting the original date, and I suppose someone has that in their 'trace' page..(since the search function no longer really works, it is tricky)..

Mudcat went online in Oct or Nov. of '96. I think...the database only had been on before at another place..I suspect the exact dates will be posted soon...

(the oldest thread I have in my tracer is Aug of '97, and it is #2875)

and, having posted that, it just dawned on me...you can go up and change the thread number to 1!..or 2..or 27...and get random looks at the early days...looky here..

thread # 2

#1 says it was Oct.6,1996..but I think Max had done something before that

right, sorry about that, that was my alter ego typing, not the happy cheerfully optermistic me you know and love. marvin takes over every now and again, usual at the mention of the ex*m word.

Kat mentioned the serial monogamists which reminded me of what a young divorcee told me a few days ago: "He was really nice for the most part; but he was monogamistically challenged."!!

Hope you are feeling better soon, Peter T.!

Is a serial monogamist the same as what I've been calling a serial polygamist?

Better thanks. Congrats Ivy : you seem to have reconciled yourself to the education system long enough to take an exam!
I assume a serial polygamist is the same as a parallel monogamist. At least that was how it worked with light bulbs.
yours, Peter T.

Ivy,

I've just finished the last of my exam *marking*! Believe me, if you think doing exams is hard work you should try marking a hundred or so of them. The last 2 weeks was exam marking and the 4 weeks before that was essay marking, so I need to celebrate, but I've got heaps of other work to do now, not the least of which is yukk-o housework. With all my spare time taken up with marking I've erected blockades at the front and back doors to keep everyone out.

So, congratulations on finishing your exams. Have a great time relaxing and I hope your results are fantastic.

Helen, in Oz

No, Bill: #1 was #4, just as #4 is #1, but not for the same reasons--George Lucas plans a triple trilogy. He made the second trilogy first. 1,2,3 = 4,5,6. Give that to Will Hunting to diagram. --seed

Bill, I'm afraid triple trilogy means 3+3+3. It might seem like three squared or three cubed or three squared by three cubed by the time he gets done. I liked the first well enough to see it twice, but the second and third I saw only once. The 4th (#1) doesn't draw me: there are too many good, original movies out there and in the video stores. --seed

Hurrah, hurrah for Johnny's dad, A chemist bold was he, He swiftly dosed his young son up with CaCO3.

Someone else's turn!

peter t - yep, that was the only reason i ever remembered H2SO4, but even better (even phyisist should get this which just goes to show how bad it is)

a proton goes up to an electron and says 'im a proton' to which the electron replies ' are you sure' 'yes' says the proton, 'im positive!!!!'

Science humour -- oxymoron or oxyacetylene? (Nice people, can blow up the world and all that, and I pretend to be one, but....). What looks like a proton, acts like a proton, and talks like a proton? Three quarks! (duck, joke coming).

If you see upon the street A man equiped with dipole feet, A family of curves trailing behind, It's a radar man, with a micro mind.

With micro seconds, and micro waves, Looking at the scope, he spent his days. When one day he sucumbed to a mighty jolt. What thought he got was a micro volt.

The doc looked up from his micro scope, To his colagues he softly spoke, There is no trace of a brain that I can find, He's a radar man with a micro mind.
