Subject: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: CarolC Date: 16 Dec 08 - 12:41 AM Happy Beethoven's Birthday! Here's a short video of a busker in Zurich playing part of the Fifth Symphony on accordion (note the very effective use of acoustics - it almost sounds like a church organ)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybbyup7mIbk Fur Elise... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfYIgSgOqF8 More Beethoven on the accordion... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS7TeLB0q5E This one's not Beethoven, but it totally deserves to be posted... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry3CCEgfNWk |
Subject: RE: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 16 Dec 08 - 05:21 AM Jane Austen's birthday too, born 5 years later. There was a great Peanuts strip about Beethoven's birthday, involving Schroeder of course - can't remember it exactly, but somebody - probably Lucy - raises some kind of fuss about all the attention the great composer is receiving, and the last panel shows Snoopy holding up a sign which says This annoucement void where prohibited |
Subject: RE: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: kendall Date: 16 Dec 08 - 08:08 AM I can't get any videos to play! They come up, but they are like still shots. No movement, no audio. |

Subject: RE: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: CarolC Date: 16 Dec 08 - 09:59 AM The videos start playing automatically for me, but it's possible that on some computers it's necessary to click on the play button. |
Subject: RE: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 16 Dec 08 - 10:04 AM Are you using Flashblock? I do, so I always have to click on the little "F" before anything happens. You might try it in another broswer if you have one, but stay well away from IE for the time being because of the latest security hassle. |

Subject: RE: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: CarolC Date: 16 Dec 09 - 02:47 AM It's that time of year again! Here's the 5th on glass harmonica. A worthy rendition, in my opinion... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-CWCEJPq4w And for an added bonus, here's the same glass harmonica player accompanied by accordion, although not playing Beethoven... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBNYRx0i0Js&feature=related |
Subject: RE: Happy Beethoven's Birthday! From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 16 Dec 09 - 05:02 AM Remembering once again that great Peanuts strip, here's another one. The page takes ages to load but is worth it IMHO - there are also some links to other Peanuts-related memorabilia on it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEETHOVEN Or, you can just go to http://www.examiner.com/ and type Birthday Beethoven into the search box, which will then give you some links, and the first few hits all take you there. But none of them is very fast for some reason, though I can't see why. I'd open a separate browser tab and come back in minute - |
