In July this year, there was a concert at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow to commemorate 10 years of the Celtic Connections "Danny Kyle Open stage", and to mark the 10th anniversary of Danny's death.

Artists performing that night included many of Danny's friends and contemporaries, and some of the new acts that have come through the Open Stage. So on the stage we had Archie Fisher, Dick Gaughan, Arthur Johnstone, Brian McNeill, David Ferrard, Lori Watson, Jamie Smith Trio, Swing Guitars....

There's a review of the night on http://www.gardensessions.co.uk/review_dannykyleconcert.htm

Celtic Music Radio broadcast the event live. We're planning to edit it down and rebroadcast it over the Christmas period. The first part will be broadcast on Christmas Day at 6pm (UK time), with further installments on Hogmanay and New Year's Day.

I hope you can listen.

It'll be on 1530kHz around the Glasgow area, and via the web on www.celticmusicradio.net

Bruce.

ooops - my mistake - it's the second part of the broadcast that's at 10pm UK time on the 31st. The final installment is at 3pm on New Year's Day.

Also on New year's day, at 6pm UK time, we'll be broadcasting the finals from the Celtic Connections "Danny Kyle Open Stage", recorded on Sunday 3 February 2008 with host Gibb Todd.

Bump...

part two is on in just over an hour.

At the moment, Gordon Hotchkiss is in full flow, and I've just checked the logs - he's currently got the best Wednesday online listener numbers that we've had since Celtic Connections last year.

He's just played David Ferrard, Mick West, Jimmy Shand, Dervish and The Dubliners

He's live until 10pm - from 10-11 it's the Danny Kyle memorial concert from the Old Fruitmarket, and then at 11 Gordon's back with Liz Clark.

Why not tune in - 1530kHz around Glasgow, and online at http://www.celticmusicradio.net - and if you're online at midnight, drop them an email (studio@celticmusiocradio.net) or give them a call 0141 548 4041.

I wish I had been there to hear it, instead of thousands of miles away.

Any tribute to Danny is fine by me. I will always remember his banter, his incredible hospitality and also an amazing curry he used to cook up in a huge pot for guests (our little mob from Co Durham must have been part of constant traffic to his home).

Colin

Salut! Live
