Subject: Lyr Req: Longer version of I Heard The Bells? From: GUEST,Mrr Date: 23 Dec 08 - 12:08 AM It was on NPR and it was a kind of folksy singer bopping allong about peace and love and goodwill to men, and then he didn't stop, he went on for a couple more verses? Anybody know it? It's the one about the carols and god not sleeping, or yes sleeping as in this version? |

From: Genie Date: 23 Dec 08 - 01:01 AM Two verses that Longfellow had in his original poem, that are seldom included in the song are: Then from each black, accursed mouth The cannon thundered in the South, And with the sound The carols drowned Of peace on earth, good-will to men! It was as if an earthquake rent The hearth-stones of a continent, And made forlorn The households born Of peace on earth, good-will to men! |
