I like what I am reading and hearing of a new album Kris Kristofferson has done...the first studio production of his in eleven years. You can watch a video of the title song HERE. To the right of that are a couple more songs to listen to, but you'll have to click the video "off" or it will run at the same time.

For those who can't do videos, you can hear the title song on his website HERE.

The song, "IN THE NEWS" is stunning! Makes me cry.

I always like to plug the other guitar player on the record - Stephen Bruton - one of our local guitar heros. He's been Kristoffersons lead guitar player/mandolin player for many years. He's also an excellent songwriter himself. If you ever get the chance he's worth checking out. But Kats right - this is one of Kristoffersons best recordings. The production is stripped down so that the songs really stand out.

One of my all time favorite. Love his singing and his writing.

It's a very good album, but not that new. It's been out for almost three years.

Whoops! I had a feeling I should check, but it was new to me, so I just went blithely on my way!**bg**

Wesley, I had noticed that Bruton was on there; didn't know he was in your neck of the woods. Outstanding work!

Man! I cannot stop singing these songs!

Chorus of Pilgrim's Progress:

Am I young enough to believe in revolution?
Am I strong enough to get down on my knees and pray?
Am I high enough on the chain of evolution?
To respect my brother and my sister and perfect myself,
In my own peculiar way?

From In The News:

Read about the sorry way he done somebody's daughter
Chained her to a heavy thing and threw her in the water
And she sank into the darkness with their baby son inside her
A little piece of truth and beauty died.

Don't blame God, I swear to God I heard him say:
"Not in my name, not on my ground,
I want nothing but the ending of the war.
No more killing, or it's over and the Mystery won't matter any more."

And more verses.

And, from This Old Road:

Look at that old photograph
Is it really you?
Smiling like a baby full of dreams.
Smiling ain't so easy now some are coming true.
Nothing is simple as it seems.
Guess you count your blessings with the problem
That you're dealing with today
Like the changing of the seasons.

Ain't you come a long way? Ain't you come a long way?
Ain't you come a long way down this old road?

I love this new CD!

The newest issue of Fretboard Journal has a nice article about Stephen Bruton. It should be at your newstand soon. As I recall the new issue has Joe Pass on the cover.
