I can cook pretty much any way but Orthodox Kosher too....only one set of pans/dishes, and I can't actually buy Ortho Kosher meat. But, I can cook Reform Kosher

Like Beer I had no idea that this sort of thing had been done before, but going by observations made here some form of readily accessed list could be helpful to 'Catters travelling through unfamiliar territory.

BTW the 72 hour notice thing was merely an arbitrary figure plucked out of the air, and happens to be the minimum notice that we ourselves require. It would seem sensible for each listing to include the notice required along with other relevant info.

Most of us know our dates of travel months or more in advance, and planning an itinerary could be a nice way of whiling away the dark winter evenings.

Being a 'Catters setup good manners and behaviour would, of course, be a reasonable expectation. (For the consequences of falling down on this see Charmion's 28 Dec 08 - 09:59 AM post above.)

I've got 60+ acres for campers that like untamed rural surroundings byo housing..could probably set up a tipi or two if anybody wanted. However, the place isn't close to anywhere..couple hours north of KC MO (US)

I would suggest that any mudcatter, travelling anywhere in the world send a PM to known 'catters in that area or start a thread to find unknown 'catters. Most of us have a spot of floor available with plenty of food and music (gotta get yer priorities right) and would welcome 'catters from anywhere. Jeez I'd even welcome Gargoyle to my home.

One other thing. Festival week is out because I already put up 15 in the house. Festival week being the third week of July. If you are planning on coming I would do my utmost to find you a place to sleep at no cost.

Great idea Ythanside. Didn't know it was done before. I think this should definitely be placed on the "Quick Links" section at the top.

I can't commit in 72 hours due to the fact that I have a very large family spread out throughout Canada and they just happen to be the first in my books. Oh, those happen to be in laws, out laws, brothers and sisters, boyfriends and girlfriends and folks whom I have met over the years. However, I have never turned anyone off my property. There is lots of space to camp and if that doesn't work I have friends upon my request will help as well. So if you drop by and the door happens to be locked,then go in the garage and look under the ..... and you will find a key.

From what I've seen & of the folks I know that have been on both ends it does seem that this works best on an individual basis. When the traveler knows when & where they'll be heading it seems that there's always folk chipping in. I've watched Charlie Noble & Micca travel all over & they always report on how well they're being treated & what a great time they're having, seems that, that system is working just fine.

I agree Charmion, anyone who's become an unplesant guest would have a hard time showing their face here in the future.

Count me in. I live on the Ohio/Pennsylvania border, also halfway between New York City and Chicago (500 miles either way), or halfway between Cleveland, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Like the center of a circle, I'm equidistant from anywhere. I have a one bathroom house and about an acre of yard, so I can put up a lot of people. I don't smoke, but you can smoke outside. I have cats, so allergies could be the only problem. I like to cook, and can accomodate most eating habits except Orthodox Kosher (unless you bring your own cookware). I'm away from the house some times (like Old Songs), so PM me if you think you'll be in the area.

It has occurred to me that Mudcat hospitality works as well as it does because we all know that anyone foolish enough to abuse it would be shut out, shunned and bad-mouthed in what is for many of us our favourite if not most important circle of friends and acquaintances.

I'll have you all note that Peter T is also totally brilliant, and plays a mean guitar. Possibly also a judge of fine wine. Certainly a scholar.

Well, I can't see any of my info changing any time soon. I also forgot to mention air beds. We have at least 3 (if they don't leak) AND a 5th wheel camper/caravan that will supposedly sleep 6. If you are friendly. Self contained, but summer is more friendly for that.

The only really critical thing for me is letting me know at least 3 weeks in advance when, how many, and food preferences/allergies.

We're in downtown Ottawa, Ontario, with resident cats, a spare bedroom, a good sofa and an air mattress for those numble enough to sleep on the floor.

A few years ago, we had the Duck family from Yorkshire to stay over perhaps the wettest September weekend ever seen in these parts. We had fun despite the rain, and then they went to visit Beer in Ormstown. Travelling the Mudcat way takes you to some interesting places.

On our own travels, we have enjoyed the matchless hospitality of SINSULL, Susan A-R, WYSIWYG, Raptor, Bat Goddess and Curmudgeon, Fortunato, Micca, and others. It's astounding how generous 'Catters can be, some of them (SINSULL, I'm talking about you) over and over again.

Susan's right ~ this works best on a case-by-case basis, rather than as some sort of permanent directory.

Of course, Ythanside's premises could easily enough become an "event" or gathering, though, I suppose. Am I reading it correctly: there's a camper van available for two, but room at the same site for up to fifty more folks/couples/families who have their own accommodations?

Perhaps it might be good to pick a single weekend or two per season and see how many self-contained 'Catters might show up?

I live just outside Richmond, Virginia and have two spare rooms upstairs, each with a single bed. I have three airbeds and another exra room that can be used in a pinch. I have had various mudcatters and visiting musician guests and can usually put folks up with reasonable advance notice. I'm a couple of hours from DC, about 10 miles from Richmond, Virginia, and a 45 minute drive to Williamsburg and Jamestown.

Any traveling Mudcatters are welcome here if they're in the Boston/Southern New Hampshire area (USA). We have some spare space & room (couple of couches & sometimes a spare bed) & I love to test & try my cooking on the unsuspecting. We'll also try to arrange what music we can & I always am in need of an excuse to go to any sessions or other types of folk venues. The dog is dead & buried in the garden so no fear of the mut & we don't grow any veggies or fruits over the grave, so you're safe there too. You may get subjected to whatever new songs either my wife & I are learning at the time though. I don't drink so you'd have to bring your own bottle cause my wife does. But really, I haven't really traveled but those that I know who have, have really been very well taken care of & I see that as one of the internationally worldy wonders of the Mudcater & I'd be more than proud & happy to keep that reputation strong & help to make it become a tradition within our folk community, as I know most other Mudcatters in my area feel much the same way about.

We've been known to put up with a few passing Yanks... also Yookers, Scots, Canucks and Bavarians... rent is a bottle of something drinkable and you have to like cats (or at least not be allergic to them).

We're within reasonable distance of Stanstead airport and getting here is relatively simple if you can follow a coloured line on a map... so I get lost a lot.

We'll host a session at the drop of a banjo (preferably from a great height) and you might even get to see my tits, if you're quiet.

As I only have a One Bedroom Hovel , accommodation is not that good - Floor in the lounge and a campbed is the best I can offer - BUT I am only five miles from Heathrow , so could probably assist any one flying in to London .

Western USA....can sleep 7 easily indoors on beds or sofa, but only ONE shower/tub. 2 toilets. Tent in back yard. FREE caravan/camper/tent space near by. Self contained only. NO water,electric or sewer. There is however a FREE 'dump' site. I CAN fill fresh water tanks free.

Spring, summer,fall is best,but I'm here in winter too. Winter is just COLD. NO off street parking.

Animal friendly, dogs and cats on site. Fenced yard. And I COOK. Omnivores here, but vegitarian/vegan friendly. One month notice mandantory, 2 mos is better.

More indoor space is available on the floor. Have a couple of air beds, if you don't mind dog in face while on floor. Tents available to loan. Dogs and cats on bed/in bed is most likely.

From SE Wyoming, USA. A LONG ways from Yellowstone but close to a lot of other neat places.

PS...I smoke in the house. Also a wood stove in house. So, probably NOT 'allergic friendly'

Mudcatters travel everywhere, and pay through the nose for that privilege. We, as members of this great international organisation, possess a thus far unutilised facility to make this a less costly and more accessible excercise.

Any member who can accommodate a tent, or caravan, or who has a bed or beds, all free-of-charge, to a fellow-Mudcatter and their family, can register here and be contacted a within a minimum of 72 hours of arrival of fellow Mudcatters, and expect their guests to find decent accommodation.   

It would be preferable that any Mudcatter taking advantage of this facility should be in a position to reciprocate, but individual circumstances ought, in decency, be taken into consideration.

Listings should be as brief as possible. My own offering is as follows.


Small caravan, sleeping 2, available May-Sept 2009, 2010 and 2011, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, after which the same caravan will we available in Brittany, France. PM for more information
