We are about to put out our first cd, for example if we were putting out Dirty Old Town...Ewan McColl would be the writer..but cd baby are asking for the publisher as well...assistance please.
I thought we just had to print the authors and request permission if they were still alive

Where I've posted portions of my CD, The Real Story!, on EZ-Folk and Motagator, I have it listed as being published by DaveOSings Music (which is me).

Ewan MacColl's Dirty Old Town (alt title 'Veille Ville de Merde' - I kid you not) is published by "Robbins Music Corp Ltd" and the international tune code, which CD Baby will also ask for, is T-010.162.590-4.

Interestingly there are 30 other DOTs listed, including one by a certain Shane P L McGowan.

Did you need any more?

If you have a lot, contact PRS in the new year.

Tom

Hi Tom many thanks for that, if you are the Tom who sometimes plays with Mr T Napper I know you from Whitby I believe.

Urgent ones are Belfast Mill written by SI Khan

Janie Mack by Brian Warfield, Aon focal eile by Richie Kavanagh and Katy Daly by Paul Mullins. Your assistance is much appreciated.

"Belfast Mill" is a version of "Aragon Mill," written by Si Kahn, published by Joe Hill Music, HFA Song Code: A73060.

You can find a lot of these publishers (and license them) at the Harry Fox Agency Website, http://www.harryfox.com - then go to their "songfile" section. I've found their licensing procedure to be quite easy, but it bugs me to have to pay a corporation a license fee on a song that's half a century old, with the songwriter long dead (the Si Kahn song doesn't fit that, and Si justly deserves his royalties).

Good luck with your CD, Dave.

Belfast Mills is as Joe says.

Janie Mack is not listed (are you sure that's the correct title?), but most of Brian's songs are published by SKIN MUSIC / BARDIS MUSIC CO LTD.

The Kavanagh song is 'Unpublished' (which doesn't mean it hasn't been published, just not by a registered publishing company, so the copyright resides with the maker - same as applies to all my songs for example).

Katy Daly is not registered to Paul, though there are entries for:

KATY DALY- O SHEA EAMON / GLENSIDE MUSIC PUBL CO

KATY DALY - O BRIEN DERMOT -EMMA MUSIC LTD /VALENTINE MUSIC GROUP LTD

KATY DALY - STANLEY RALPH (GB) - ZAP PUBLISHING CO

KATY DALY'S / KILLALUE BOAT /KATY DALYS - TRAD / SHERWOOD IAN CHARLES

I should ring PRS tomorrow and seek their advice to be sure.

Tom

You could also list the publisher as "Samizdat" (self-published).
