Subject: RE: Obit: Rock songwriter Delaney Bramlett dies From: PoppaGator Date: 29 Dec 08 - 03:05 PM Delaney (with his partner/wife Bonnie) actually assembled the great band that would become Eric Clapton's "Dominos" (as in Derek and the Dominos). Delaney and Bonnie, with their band, attracted a number of much more famous and established rock stars to join in with them, including Joe Cocker and Leon Russell as well as Clapton and George Harrison. Delaney and Bonnie were also participants in the notorious "Festival Express" railroad tour across Canada in the early '70s. The documentary film of that event (available on DVD) includes a brief scene, appearing very shortly after the opening credits, of Delaney singing informally on the train ride with a couple of other off-duty rock stars. Unfortunately, there is no footage at all of the D&B Band in concert performance. I assume that there were copyright/permission problems, which is the reason for many of the featured acts on the Festival Express tour to be omitted from the film. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Rock songwriter Delaney Bramlett dies From: Michael Harrison Date: 29 Dec 08 - 03:53 PM I've always liked the song, "Never-ending Love," and suspect that it will do just that. May you rest in peace, Delaney. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Rock songwriter Delaney Bramlett dies From: GUEST Date: 29 Dec 08 - 06:58 PM Delaney Bramlett was the mentor and catalyst for some legendary musicians and their music, always seeming to be on the periphery of breaking through to be recognized as a phenomenal talent in his own right, but never achieving the superstardom that his contemporaries did. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Rock songwriter Delaney Bramlett (Dec 2008) From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Dec 08 - 02:57 AM There ought to be a group for people like him....... A true great but almost unknown to the general populace by comparison. From John Lennon to Jerry Lee Lewis, from Clapton to Presley to Harrison, he spanned the length and width of Rock and yet his own fame was almost non-existent. Tremendous talent..............very sad........... Spaw |
Subject: RE: Obit: Rock songwriter Delaney Bramlett (Dec 2008) From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 30 Dec 08 - 05:09 AM Saw them in concert with 'Blind Faith', 'Delaney and Bonnie, and Friends' and 'Free' (later known as 'Bad Company'), at the L.A. Forum, in 1969. Was an unforgettable concert, where Leon Russell joined them on piano, and Bobby Keyes on sax, for encores which they were ALL on stage playing together(a lot of older 'Cream' tunes). Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great and under rated musician! |
Subject: RE: Obit: Rock songwriter Delaney Bramlett (Dec 2008) From: Steve Latimer Date: 30 Dec 08 - 08:39 PM Sad news indeed. I believe that it was the nucleus of "& Friends" who became the main part of Joe Cocker's 'Mad Dogs & Englishmen" tour. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Rock songwriter Delaney Bramlett (Dec 2008) From: John O'L Date: 30 Dec 08 - 09:44 PM On Tour With Eric Clapton, like Dark Side of the Moon, Deja Vu, Astral Weeks etc (fill in the blank) was one of those cassettes that was always in the glovebox on late night runs between bars, or surfing trips up the coast - one of those "soundtrack to you life" albums, that doesn't have to be played to be remembered. Music that's always with you whether you're aware of it at the time or not. The stuff that makes you what you are. I never knew much about the guy but I liked his music heaps. |
