Subject: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 29 Dec 08 - 11:47 PM I've been trying to access www.addall.com book search this evening and cannot get anything to come up. I learned about it, here, on the Mudcat. Have any of you been on or heard anything? I was able to find a neat interview of the folks behind it HERE, but there's no date. It's one of my fav. sites. I hope it isn't gone! Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Dec 08 - 12:06 PM Thanks, michael. Still can't get it. I've tried two different browsers, dumped all my cookies, etc. and it still won't come up. Anyone else? I have sent them an email which was listed in that article, but no reply, yet. |

Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: GUEST,Jack Campin Date: 30 Dec 08 - 12:59 PM Try used.addall.com instead. It's the URL I've always used. Worked thirty seconds ago. |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Dec 08 - 02:40 PM Well, that's just weird. I've never had any problems with it before and I can access any other usual website I go to! I tried the used, etc. still cannot get anything but page unavailable. I've made sure to denote it as an "allow pop ups" site, etc. Checked my firewall and AVG to be sure to allow it, except i have the free version on the latter and didn't see how to MAKE it allow anything but the ones they've already designated, so...but those have both been the same forever with no changes. The only thing I can think if Forefox downloaded a new version without even asking me recently so I've got 3.0.5, but I've tried opera and IE and they both say the same thing, too. I wouldn't get too worried about it, except I've had a query at my fledgling online bookstore and want to do a search.:-) Any other ideas, fellahs? Thanks! |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Dec 08 - 03:38 PM I just ran spybot and adaware and still no go with no problems showing up on them. I really am at a loss. |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: Beer Date: 30 Dec 08 - 03:42 PM I just checked as I have it on my "Favorites" and it came up with no problem. Strange indeed. adrien |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Dec 08 - 05:46 PM I am going to see if I can get it on my Rog's laptop when he brings it home tonight. At least then I will know if it is something with just my computer or our network or something else weird. Thanks, folks. |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 31 Dec 08 - 01:23 AM Can't get it on my Rog's laptop, either. We have dumped all cookies, temp files, checked out our exceptions on the firewalls, AVG, etc. nothing seems to be working. We have been having major problems with our IP; they are coming back to our street, tomorrow, after finally identifying a "problem" which has kept us mostly off-line for two days, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Rog thinks they may be blocking it for some dumb reason. I am out of ideas, so we'll see what happens after they are here, tomorrow, I guess. |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: open mike Date: 31 Dec 08 - 02:04 AM here is where i go when looking for books... www.abebooks.com http://www.alibris.com/ have you tried this? http://www3.addall.com/Used/ looks like--reminds me of world war 3... but this site works for me too. |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: maeve Date: 31 Dec 08 - 07:51 AM http://www3.addall.com/Used/ This link from Open Mike works for me. |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 31 Dec 08 - 08:10 AM Me too. BTW, is there a reason that no one is mentioning Bibliofind? You can type in www.bibliofind.com and it will automatically redirect you to http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?node=299899011 I realise it's an Amazon thing, but I have found it useful on occasion. Or does everybody know something that I don't? I believe they now restrict their searches to shops in America, but that's still a pretty big area. |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: maeve Date: 31 Dec 08 - 08:45 AM Bonnie, I have found all of the sites mentioned to be useful for different searches, even Amazon. I liked Bibliofind amond others when I was doing book searches as a librarian. Thanks for reminding me! I think that the alternatives posters have mentioned here may well be useful to kat, but she was particularly interested in the Addall site as she's had good results with it. Happy book searching, maeve |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 31 Dec 08 - 12:12 PM Even open mike's doesn't work for me. Our internet is still out of whack. They've called to say they are working on it, sometime today.:-< I like addall because it includes all of the others in one central place/search. Thansk, folks! |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 01 Jan 09 - 03:31 PM After dragging my Rog back to the office and saying what the heck...he had me try to ping them and it showed that my network wasn't even finding addall. So, I called our server company and the fellah there was spot on! He had me to go Control Panel, Network Connections, Local Area Connections, right-click, and then follow the prompts to change the choice of DNS addys to try, instead of telling it to do it automatically. Voilà! I can get in again!! |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 01 Jan 09 - 07:00 PM hooray. Didid he say why the gremlin inside your computer/their computers decided to remove ADDall? sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: is ADDall book search gone? From: katlaughing Date: 01 Jan 09 - 08:57 PM Thanks, Sandra. No, he said it may have been the router, but they aren't quite sure why it corrupts and doesn't recognise the IP numbers. He had me put in a main one which he said is always "public" and an alternative which is also always "public" whatever that means...he assured me it had nothing to do with access to my computer and that avg, firewall, etc. were sufficient. |
