Jean has asked me to let everyone know that the collection at Richard's funeral raised £806.20
(where did the 20p come from? :-)
It will be divided equally between cancer researce UK and Dove House Hospice.
Dove House is our local hospice and does stirling work.

It was an emotional and moving memorial to Richard, and I would guess there were at least 200 people there for the service - which shows how much love there was for him.Terribly sad for Jean and Lisa of course, but I hope they were at least comforted a little by that.It wasnt a glum experience at all though - not with the Laurel and Hardy theme tune as part of the order of service!

Certainly Mr Tambourine Man worked as an opener. Listening again to such lines as "take me on a trip", "take me disappearing" "I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade" in that context added a whole new dimension to them.

Unfortunately I had to leave the wake before any music was played - how was it?

R

A wonderful celebration, overseen by Oli Norman, and a fitting tribute to Richard.

From 'Mr Tambourine Man' to the close ... can't say much more.
'Goodbye old ship of mine'

Phew! Am now rather tearful after reading all the above - all the things I might have said have already said and more eloquently than I ever could. Didn't know Richard anywhere near as well as others but that was just the point of Richard - you didn't need to to know he was a bit different. Can't get there tomorrow but I'll be having a reflective moment at 3pm and raising glass to him when I get home. With love to Jean and Lisa.

I can't make it but would like to at least send a card. Would that go to the Sutton Park address (the one I have for Richard on my database)?

Jean just rang me. She didn't mention dress code or anything. Just that it's family flowers only - they've chosen lilies for his Mum, Marguerita daisies for Lisa to remind her of the daisy chains he made her when she was little, and white roses for Yorkshire. There will be a collection for cancer charities. Olly is conducting a non-religious 'service', which quote "should make us cry". Not much chance of anything else is there. She also said that he wanted everyone to sing and play him out and be cheeerful.

It's sad that it's taken something like this to hear from old friends. Phil love to Carol, and Gem remember me to Steph, and I'm glad to see a message from you and that you re not the Gerry Cooper who I saw obits for.
