Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: Fortunato Date: 01 Jan 09 - 09:48 PM Hello LIttle Robyn, CapriUni, Breton Cap, et al. thanks for all your enthusiasm. I'm open to suggestions about a more appropriate song. Let's keep up the search and give it some thought. I've had responses from a lot of folks by email and PM as well as you folks here, and it was a good start. I envisioned it as Little Robyn described it, a song circle around the world. Let's keep the circle of fellowship alive. all the best chance |
Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: GUEST,IanBP.in NZ Date: 01 Jan 09 - 06:52 PM what a great idea. I'm sorry I missed it. Would have loved to have sunga along. |
Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: Little Robyn Date: 01 Jan 09 - 04:31 PM We sang the cyberhymnal words, then followed that with the first and last verse of the other version (but the middle part was too morbid for me). As we were finishing, our neighbor knocked on the door and I was called away to rescue a baby bird - a song thrush that had fallen out of it's nest. By the time we arrived, there were 2 other birds, slightly older, one with a broken wing and I think he'll die, the other was very mobile once the neighbor's dog put it down. Then an adult bird called to it and he took off, stopped in the middle of the road so I had to chase it right over before the oncoming car squashed it, and now he and mum are over the road. The others are in a box under the bushes so we'll check on them in a while. Phew! It's 10 in the morning here, on 2nd Jan. Happy New Year! Robyn |

Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: Little Robyn Date: 01 Jan 09 - 03:08 PM Just under an hour to go?? I'm ready. It's like a circle of singers right around the world. The chorus is very suitable but the verses are a bit funereal for a New Year celebration. Perhaps someone should rewrite them for next year? Robyn |
Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: Dave Earl Date: 01 Jan 09 - 01:44 PM Well I was on board last night - hope that doesn't mean I'm excluded this time around. Dave |
Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: CapriUni Date: 01 Jan 09 - 01:10 PM Well, I don't have any strong belief in the theology of "May the Circle be Unbroken," but I do have strong belief in the power of voices raised in song together... And I'll be singing in a little less than three hours' time. For next year, how about "How Can I Keep From Singing?" |
Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: Sue the Borderer Date: 01 Jan 09 - 12:21 PM Loved the idea folks, but just wondered whether 'next year' it might be possible to find a song which is a bit more 'inclusive'. OK. I own up! I do usually join in with this one, and with others like it cos they have great tunes, wonderful harmonies and can be sung with gusto - but I just couldn't bring myself to do so this time. I wanted something that held real meaning for me. Any suggestions for something suitable? Sue |

Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: MickyMan Date: 31 Dec 08 - 08:09 PM I just finished it here in Colchester, CT USA and I even got my wife and 19 year old son to join in on the double chorus ending with the elongated allelluia type ending. Hah hah, my son is still singing it in the itchen while he is getting ready for his friends to arrive for their New Years Eve get together. It felt great for me. Makes me think that I did a proper ringing in of 2009 - even though my wife and I will probably be sleeping by 10:00. Love to all the Catters who sang it with us, MickyMan |

Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: open mike Date: 31 Dec 08 - 08:05 PM Will the circle be unbroken, By and by, Lord, bye and bye? There's a better home a-waiting In the sky, Lord, in the sky. I was standing by the window On one cold and cloudy day; And I saw the hearse come rolling For to carry my mother away. Lord, I told the undertaker, "Undertaker, please drive slow; For this body you are hauling, Lord, I hate to see her go" I followed close behind her, tried to hold up and be brave But I could not hide my sorrow When they laid her in the grave. Went back home, Lord, my home was lonesome Since my mother, she was gone; All my brothers, sisters crying What a home so sad and lone. Now my mother, she's crossed over Where so many have gone before. And I know, Lord, I will meet her Just waiting at glory's door. |

Subject: RE: New Years Eve/Day Singaround the World From: Little Robyn Date: 31 Dec 08 - 07:50 PM Have we all got the same words? Here are the words from the cyberhymnal: The words are the work of Ada Ruth Habershon (1861-1918, born in London, England), written before 1908, with music by Charles H. Gabriel (1856-1932). Will the circle be unbroken There are loved ones in the glory, Whose dear forms you often miss; When you close your earthly story, Will you join them in their bliss? Refrain Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? In a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky? In the joyous days of childhood, Oft they told of wondrous love, Pointed to the dying Savior Now they dwell with Him above. Refrain You remember songs of heaven Which you sang with childish voice, Do you love the hymns they taught you, Or are songs of earth your choice? Refrain You can picture happy gatherings Round the fireside long ago, And you think of tearful partings, When they left you here below: Refrain One by one their seats were emptied, One by one they went away; Here the circle has been broken— Will it be complete one day? Refrain 10 minutes to go... Robyn |
