The correct title is TIDE AND THE RIVER RISING (OARS).

You can hear the whole song at Cindy Kallet's web site.

The lyrics have already been posted in another thread: here.

Very special song from a very special lady. I found the song many years ago on a John McCormack CD and looked up the writer "C Kallet" on Google. Now, four Cindy Kallet CDs and a songbook later I have been an avid fan for a few years. Cindy Kallet has written some wonderful songs and tunes and is an incredible guitarist and singer. And yes, the Mangson/Gillette version of this song is delightful too.

Beautiful song, written for a memorial service. I love it because it calls the listener to take part in life. I'd post the words, but I can't seem to paste them in. Buy the CD!

so it is not Connie Kaldor, then?
will check this song out...
also paddles are for canoes and oars are for row boats
but what do you call the ones that you use to propel kayaks?

I'm happy I could help, John. It's my pleasure. Cindy is one of my favorite human beings, and you owe it to yourself to listen to some of her more recent work as well.

Frogprince- I haven't heard the Mangson/Gillette version of Cindy Kallet's song, but I'd expect it to be gorgeous. Thanks.

Cindy Mangson and Steve Gillette do a gorgeous job on this, too.

I just downloaded it. It's as good as I remember. I once heard LJ Booth do it. I was nearly a puddle of tears afterward.

Thanks. That's exactly it! It was driving me CRAZY. I could only recall bits and snatchs -- none of which was enough to do a full search.

You are right now my favorite human in the world. This honor changes regularly and comes without reward. But, still....

That song has been haunting me all week, John. You're thinking of Cindy Kallett's "Time and the River Rising" on her "Dreaming Down a Quiet Line" cd. Lovely song and album.

I can't think of enough of the song to look it up. I know it's been posted her. It was written (as I remember it) by a woman with an aliterative name like "kathy kallick" two hard k sounds (as I remember it -- or it might have been a c and a k)

Some of it is "Come on take your oars and row" and the title doesn't come directly from the lyric -- something like "Winding down a ____ ____"

Surely someone here knows what song I'm thinking of?
