He's back! Kendall will be appearing at the Sidedoor Cafe in Brunswick Maine on January 16th 09.

This is a folk club that has guest spots and Kendall will be doing a 50 minute set. Just right to get him back and performing again.

He'll be telling the truth as it is known only to Downeasters, with maybe a recitation or two thrown in to the mix. I'll be singing a song or two, to give his voice a little bit of rest during the performance.

If you're able to get there we would love to see our Mudcat friends in the audience.

The Sidedoor Coffeehouse is the one where Judy and I do sound and it's a great little place in the basement of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Brunswick. The audience actually listens to performers and will sing along if encouraged. The format is open mic for the first hour and a half, sign-up at 7 pm. Then a break, followed by the featured performer. We're certainly looking forward to this concert.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble and JudyB

WE had a great night last night and, bearing in mind the freeing weather, there was a good turn out, some of whom told me that they came specifically because Kendall was performing.

The open mic first half produced some interesting items, in particular Pat doing two Ruth Moore poems (one with a guest appearance from Gordon Bok) and finishing off with an unusual version of the Cinderella story.

Kendall was in really good form and had the audience well caught up in his stories. I could see him visibly relax as the evening went on. It doesn't seem to matter how often I hear the tales - his delivery is such that I set to giggling as much as the audience.

His voice made it through fifty minutes and then an encore of a couple more stories. He was a bit hoarse when we went home but not enough to stop him talking, whjch is a good sign.

There will be some more concerts in the pipeline and we'll let you know about them once they are confirmed.

Great news!

Re the turnout, I know of at least one person who couldn't go because of the cold and having to drive back roads at night. I felt sad when we talked about it yesterday. But I am sure that person will be happy to hear it went well.

Good on yas both!

We certainly enjoyed hearing Kendall again. His voice is stronger, and demonstrates more range and expression. And he did relax as his stories got an appreciative response from the audience. It was great to hear him insist on an encore.

Two of the stories were old favorites of mine, the demise and recycling of the lobsterman Elithilet (sic) Toothacher and the internment and subsequence drainage of Father who fell down the well the well. Jacqui also did a fine job of sing "Fisherman's Wife" and "The Rose of Allendale." He also recited John Masefield's fine poem "The Yarn of the Loch Achray." Oh, and there was also the incredible story "Beginner's Luck." But it's really all the odd bits in between that makes one fully appreciate what Kendall can do when he's firing on all six cylinders.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Thanks to all who came, and appreciated what I was trying to do. Losing my singing voice is kinda like a one legged man trying to win an ass kicking contest.
It was nice to hear people join in on the parts they knew. Judy and Charlie did a great job on the sound; that can make or break a performer. As I always say, "There are two things you don't do in this life. Step on Superman's cape, or piss off the sound man." (Persons)

Actually, Pat posed the question of an encore, thinking I might be used up, so I simply said "Yes, I can do one more."
I used to be in the service...you don't volunteer for anything.

I really appreciate Jacqui being able to help me by doing some singing. It gave my voice a much needed rest.
Paul Shaffner ran our new camcorder, and I'm about to find out if it recorded.

Thanks again to all who came out on a "Rafter snapper" night in mid winter.

So the Captain is back to his old self! And he did "When Father Fell Down The Well" - one of my favorites. I missed it. Just not up to a night out.
Congratulations to the Morse Family! Well done!
Will The Yarn of the Loch Achray be your signature piece, Captain? It is you.

Please let me add a third thing to your list, Captain. In addition to said Cape, and not screwing with the sound guy (mortal sin), you should never go to a dentist with hairy fingers........ (now... get THAT headworm out of your mind...hahahahaha).

I am so happy to hear this news, and I simply must get up there to at least watch you perform, and with any luck do a song or two with you. That is, if we can manage to hang out without Jacqui assigning us to the cellar...... Can we take the dog, or is Mary still hogging the beast?

Love to all,

Mick

Jacqui handles all that. I can make a few but I run out of patience. They take so long to make one at a time.

OK - once I get rid of the cold I've just developed I'll be producing DVDs. We've worked out a cost of $10 (got to pay for the camcorder somehow!)

Send me a PM if you want one.

Just got around to playing it. Great laughs, great poetry, great songs. Well, one and a half songs. That's when my PC froze and crashed. Just can't play em on my PC. So, I am gonna have to bite the bullet and get a DVD player... I am tired of all this new high tech stuff.

Thanks K and j. I really enjoyed what I saw and I will enjoy more when I get modern.
