Browsers do 'refresh' too, Bill. MSIE does 'refresh' and my Windows desktop and Windows Explorer refresh. Joe meant refresh the browser, which in some cases means reload.

"refresh" refers to Mudcat, to ask it to send a later list of threads... "RELOAD" to the BROWSER settings above Mudcat, to request that list be made the latest one in your cache...(at least in my browsers)

I gather that you've done that.
As I understand it, you've properly logged in and then went to a page that said this:
    We are sorry, you must be a member to take advantage of this feature. Membership is free. Please take a moment and Join Us

When you're on that "we're sorry" page, try this: click the "refresh" icon on the top of your browser.

Gotta go hike. More later.

TRY THIS!

after it says "Your cookie has been reset. You are now acting as..." etc., go to the main page & hit RELOAD...not "refresh". This tells your browser not to look at the page in your cache, but to get a new copy. 'Refresh' uses the same copy/cookie that did NOT know you.

I have to do this now & then, and usually, that is all it takes.

All the parts about clearing the cache...etc.. are relevant, but may be the long way around.

I have tried all the different ways suggested and also downloaded the Fire fox browser. As we are in a cold spell I have left it a day and tried again. Same thing. I had a recent logging in problem. Somehow, I'd signed out. To sign back in I needed my user name, email address and password.

Since first registering I could not remember which email I had originally used (I use a number, for different uses, mainly to minimise spam overload); the password (that's always changing); and user name. I was continually logged out, and discovered in the end - when I saw one of my earlier posts in a thread - that I had been using the wrong user name. I had forgotten to add the D to the end.

Trial and error, but I got there in the end.

Oooooombanjo -if it is a browser related problem, changing to a different browser should sidestep it.
One place worth looking at is This Site - http://portableapps.com/ . It is a bunch of free programmes, some of them powerful replacements for commercial software. The "Portable Suite" is designed to go on a USB stick and run without installing ANYTHING on your PC, but individual applications can also be put into a folder anywhere on your computer without installing registry entries or any of the other junk most programmes hide on your system discs. If you don't need the portable programme, simply deleting the folder it is in, "uninstalls" all traces from your computer.

My only suggestion would be to log out and clean your cache (instructions in the FAQ). Mick might have some specific information about browsers though, so you can try him.

I'm guessing you're using an AOL browser. If that's the case, the only solution is to switch to any other browser. You might like Firefox.
As I recall, there is another possible cause, but I can't remember what it is. If you contact me by e-mail, I can help you try a number of solutions.

I respectfully venture to suggest that any log-in name containing the word "banjo", indeed any combination of those dread letters, is going to set the site's auto defence, if not even auto-DESTRUCT ,mechanisms, in operation.
      Should you wish to become oomguitar,oommelodeon, or even oomhurdygurdy ( heaven forbid ), you might enjoy greater success.Do try.

What does 'it will not let me' mean?

You type your user name, then you type your password. THEN what happens?

And if it tells you you're posting as oombanjo, then what happens?

Also, have you tried all the steps in the FAQ?

When I try to log in it will not let me. The system lets me in only as a guest? is it trying to tell me something?
