Over all tree tops tall,
Faintly on the hill tops winding,"

I remember it well ..My mum used to sing it to me when I was a very small child ..she came from the South West and firmly allowed me to believe that she had seen fairies! ..So magically warming to remember those memories! Would love to know by whom it was written ..still hold the melody in my heart and happiest treasures of childhood still unleashed ..Great song to learn how to sing properly to!

welcome to mudcat, guest, Sher.

you will have better luck if you include
the lyrics in the subject line..as I did above
rather than requiring one to open the
thread to see the words.
this may increase your chances of
someone recognizing the song.

good luck with your request...

Shakespeare! hardly. More like Christina Rosetti.

Sounds like it might be one of Will Shakespeare's little rhymes, as often performed by Ariel, or whoever.

My mother was an absolute mine of poems and fairy tales, but I don't recall that one.

My mother used to sing this to me, in the 1960's.
wondered whether anyone knows its origins or whether there were anymore verses-

when at night the shadows fall,
over all, tree tops tall
faintly on the hill tops rising
you will hear the fairies call
creep on tip toe softly peeping
treading on toes the king most sleepng
there you'll see the fairies leaping
round and round the fairy tree!...

thanks for reading!
im waiting with eager anticipation :)
