Wasn't quite sure how to classify this thread, but I was over in Italy for Xmas and saw a group (I don't think "buskers" would do them justice) perform a number of Italian (Roman) folk songs and they were really quite excellent. They have their own interpretation of some traditional songs, put their own stamp on them.

I know most of these threads seem devoted to English / Irish / US folk, but these guys are worth checking out even if you don't understand the lyrics. They sing traditional Roman songs and recite poems about Rome etc (I saw them recite one about the overuse of the grammatical subjunctive in the Roman dialect form of Italian, it was fairly clever as the poem itself overused the subjunctive)

Their webpage is... actually I'll just make that a clicky, here goes -

Ponentino Trio

I set it to take you straight to their video-link page where you can see samples of them performing (but I must say I saw them perform some better songs live). You can probably find more examples on Youtube (what CAN'T you find on Youtube these days!?)

PS - reports of my death were greatly exaggerated, as the man said, I was just snowed under these last six months or more.
