Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: michaelr Date: 01 Jun 16 - 07:07 PM Now how does this work - a seven-year-old thread refreshed without a new post? Weird. |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Kev The Clogs Date: 12 Feb 09 - 07:32 PM Well, what can I say? A roaring success I think!!!! A very good attendance tonight. A great evening of fine music. I've not heard MWR before and I thought he was great - especially Exercise 77 (the room was spell bound!!)). Mark and Fiona (the landlord and landlady) were not there, as they went on holiday in the morning. However, Frank made a great job of looking after everyone (he apologises if anybody was kept waiting too long, but there were only two staff, himself and Fred, serving two packed bars and preparing food). Fred was fantastic in the amount of food that he prepared for us. You've set the bar fairly high Fred!! All in all - a success! see you all next month on the 12th (Vicki Swann and Jonny Dyer). Regards Kev |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: melodeonboy Date: 12 Feb 09 - 05:56 AM I won't be able to come I'm afraid (rehearsal!). Disappointing, as I'd really like to see Martyn Wyndham-Read again. I hope you'll have a great evening (and watch out for the bears!) |

Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Will Fly Date: 14 Jan 09 - 07:14 AM Kev - I really think you should start to write "The Good Bear Guide" - there must be a market for it. Think of Tolstoy's "War and Pooh" - a million-seller if ever there was one - not to mention "Rupert of Hentzau"... |

Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: melodeonboy Date: 13 Jan 09 - 07:52 PM "The venue, The Crown, is a superb venue - 16th century, quaint, real fires, great food, real ales, in the Good Bear Guide - what else can I say???!!!!" Should I be worried about the grizzlies, or are there only teddies there???? And are woods provided for them to "you know what"? And am I allowed to sing "Waltzing with Bears" on the 12th? |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Girl Friday Date: 13 Jan 09 - 11:28 AM I heartily agree with Essex Girl's comments. The fact that the club ran for so long there must have been due to Sue's liking of Folk Music. Every time I hear talk of Pam's Club, and we were discussing it last night even, the feedback is "great club", shame about the single bar, and the loudness of the conversation. Good luck to the Club in it's new home. The Crown is a great music pub and has hosted a fair few folkie events in the past. |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Kev The Clogs Date: 13 Jan 09 - 10:57 AM Directly from an email that Pam has just sent me this afternoon - Travellers Rest Folk Club is moving! With immediate effect! The February 12th night (Martyn Wyndham-Read, excellent guest who has not been to the club for a few years) and every Travellers Rest date thereafter, will now be at the Crown Public House in the centre of Otford village. Whilst the Club will still be held in the bar, there are two bars available, so any customers who do not wish to hear the music have more than enough room in the second bar; hopefully leaving those who are interested a better chance to hear. This is only one of the many reasons for the change, which I am sure will be for the better. Please do come and support this changed venue either in February or at any time in the future. The Folk Magazines will carry details of the change, but it is possible that people will not notice at first, because they are not expecting it. Hence this e-mail. The Crown is very easy to find, being right in the centre of Otford, facing the roundabout with the duck pond. Their details are as follows: 10, High Street, Otford, Kent, TN4 5PQ Tel: 01959 522847. My phone number is 01255 674889 and mobile: 07921 640 772. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you require any further information. Hope to see you there. Pam Hope this clarifies some of your worries. Kev The Clogs |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: GUEST,Essex Girl Date: 13 Jan 09 - 08:29 AM The Landlady was always welcoming, but some of the customers could be obnoxious, talking loudly on purpose near the singers. eather permitting I'll be at the Crown on th 12th. |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Kev The Clogs Date: 13 Jan 09 - 07:27 AM Pam's choice. From my point of view, it never felt welcoming in there and that we were "tolerated". Rumour has it that the pub will be closing in the next year or two as well. So I suppose it makes sense to move it now to somewhere where we will be welcome, have a longterm future, be looked after etc etc. Kev |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Dave Masterson Date: 12 Jan 09 - 06:02 PM Why the move? Eileen and I were regulars at the club for years before moving to East Kent and loved the Rising Sun. |
Subject: RE: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Will Fly Date: 12 Jan 09 - 03:35 PM Thanks Kev - I've updated my Kent Clubs web page. |
Subject: Traveller's rest Folk Club - MOVING HOME From: Kev The Clogs Date: 12 Jan 09 - 03:29 PM Hi there Fellow Folkies. Great news - The Traveller's Rest Folk Club, that has, for years, been meeting at the Rising Sun in Twitton, near Sevenoaks, Kent, is ON THE MOVE TO A NEW HOME!!!!! Not far, but a very good choice indeed!!! It will be moving to The Crown at Otford (I know that many of you know about the Crown and Mark and Fiona already!!!). Pam, who runs the Traveller's Rest Folk CLub, has asked me to inform you all on The MudCat about the change and, INDEED, has asked me to encourage you all to come along a see what it is like. SO - THE FIRST night will be THURSDAY 12th FEBRUARY where the headline guest will be Martyn Wyndham-Read. Usual format applies - get there and tell Pam that you want a floor spot (and you'll get it) - Martyn will do his first half. Break plus a raffle. Floor spots agin, followed by Martyn for his second half. The club will be running, as it always has done, on the SECOND THURSDAY of every month. The venue, The Crown, is a superb venue - 16th century, quaint, real fires, great food, real ales, in the Good Bear Guide - what else can I say???!!!! Just get your backsides down there pronto!!!!
