Dave, thanks for getting this thread going. Here's a bit more information, including the websites of the Royal Oak, Barcombe and the Elephant & Castle .

Hurrah! It's that time of year again. The tunes session on Sunday from noon until 3.00 p.m. will be upstairs in the Lewes Saturday Folk Club's new home, the Elephant & Castle, White Hill, Lewes BN7 2DJ. Good pub food will be on sale.

SUSSEX All-day SINGAROUND

Royal Oak, Barcombe, Sussex BN8 5BA
Saturday 17th. January 2009, 11.00 am – 11.00 p.m.

The day begins as usual with an hour of join-in tunes while people arrive. Singing starts at noon; ballads and the occasional instrumental party piece will be very welcome. There's a break from 6.00 - 7.00 p.m. We had a spontaneous tunes session last year. After the break we'll continue the singaround, and after completing the circuit of the room we'll try to put on anyone who hasn't yet sung.

Rota

11.00 - 12.00               Tunes session led by Bryan Creer

12.00 - 1.30 p.m.         Dave Earl and Elizabeth Rimmington

1.30 - 3.00 p.m.          Sandra Goddard and Valmai Goodyear

3.00 - 4.30 p.m.          Diane and Steve Nevill

4.30 - 6.00 p.m.          Valmai Goodyear

6.00 - 7.00                   BREAK

7.00 - 8.30 p.m.          Don and Di Morgan (will encourage anyone who hasn't sung to come forward)

8.30 - 11.00 p.m.         Peter Collins (to arrange generous final hour of choruses)

Please let us have any comments about the day.

Post them to Lewes Saturday Folk Club c/o 20, St. John's Terrace, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 2DL, or e-mail them to valmaigoodyear@aol.com

Much as I would love to be there, unless I finish this fence today (and as my help never turned up yesterday and the handle on my pickaxe broke, it seems unlikely), I'll be busy erecting on Saturday... :(

I hope to be at Barcombe.

Liz - best of luck with the erection. (There had to be one obvious response now, didn't there...)

I've got a gig in the evening, but I'll try to get there for the afternoon session. Last year's one was a cracker.

And they were! along with a great many others. I think about sixty at any one time; probably a hundred over the whole day with people who came and went. A good time had by all. I even sang myself, which is a (thankfully) rare thing.

Thanks to Dave Earl and Elizabeth, Steve and Diane Nevill, and Valmai Goodyear (and me) for running their sections of the day and Pete Collins for MCing the evening including the final chorus songs.

Special thanks for Lynne and Pat and Mary and Liz for their splendid performance (with actions) of I Must Increase My Bust.

And thank you to Sandra for turning up despite having become a grandmother for the second time a few days before.

Yes thank you all from across the bridge in foreign parts. I had a lovely time, even though I had to sit still and quiet for most of the day. Lots of wonderful singers. I also enjoyed the tune sesh on Sunday at the Elephant and Castle. I don't often get to play English tunes and I love 'em! The sun shone too - as soon as we crossed the Severn bridge it rained. I told you it would!

Thanks, everybody, for making it another terrific day. Same again next year! And another tunes session on the Sunday, too.

Pattie mentions the Elephant & Castle, the new home of the Lewes Saturday Folk Club. We have an excellent new room there: it's been enlarged and the acoustics are superb. It will be big enough for dancing and all sorts of interesting activities. There's a real fireplace - perhaps we can manage a Halloween evening by firelight and candlelight.

Come on Saturday 24th. to hear the redoubtable John Morgan.... and every Saturday after that .........

Valmai (Lewes)
