We got chance to see the Wilsons for the first time this year at Shrewsbury Folk Festival, which was the last one of our visit this year before returning home. They totally blew us away with the power of the singing and the fun they have between each other while on stage. We spoke to them briefly while buying their new CD which is excellent, and these lads are definitely what you see is what you get, and I think that's the feeling I get when reading about them on the website. Brilliant!
Don't know how we've managed to miss them in the past, but it won't happen again.

Hello Dick,

As well as the obvious! the title is taken from the first track on the CD, which is a song we learnt from Mam and Dad as kids.

It seemed appropriate!

See you soon,

Ken.

Who?? never heard of 'em !!

The Great Big long haired crew (sorry Pat) bunch of singers who make an instant singaround, specially with their extended family in place!

They just love to sing "Miner's Life" in Conservative clubs such as Whitby and Saltburn!

and Graeme Miles songs

Such superb close harmonies and knowledge and great friends of the late Keith Marsden and Peter Bellamy

I agree Big D, the work that the Wilsons have done over the years to promote "our music" is well deserving of an award. Since the 70's they have been involved in running folk clubs in their native north-east. But the work they put in at festivals and clubs should also be acknowledged. We saw them at Whitby last year, where they finished off a big concert at the Met. to a packed ballroom one night and the next day they were running a singers session in the Middle Earth pub, joining in every chorus. So maybe it is time that the Wilsons are rewarded for their efforts. Can't wait to here the new CD!

I've just discovered this site at www.wilsonfamilyalbum.co.uk and its brilliant - mind, you need to set aside half an hour to go through it in detail. Informative and funny it's a real top quality site - now I know where some of their bizarre song introductions come from.
If you want to know whether all the lads have the same inside leg measurement you'll have to wait for the next update - can't wait!
It's also great news to hear about the imminent release of their new album - it just gets better & better - surely a shoe in for the 2010 'folk awards'. Mr. Harding & Co take note.

I couldn't remember the other outlet where the albums can be obtained (Other than Damien's website, that is). Perhaps you can add a link to the thread for me.

Excellent well constructed website! I first saw the Wilson Family perform at Whitby folk festival 1978 I think, in the then called Cutty Sark pub opposite the railway station. They were great then and have only got better with age. Lovely people and good company, as well as their obvious singing talent. Long may they continue.

Hello Jo, the Wilsons are not appearing in that area in February, although Chris and myself may be visiting friends, where there may well be a session taking place. This might be what you've heard about.

Cheers,

Ken.
