There's a neat old 78 audio of this available at the Library of Congress Jukebox. Done by Kelly Harrell in 1925.

As usual, Joe "the gumshoe" Offer tracked it down first. This is the version I remembered (shortened by Lonnie and changing "Spain" to "Maine", I think). DT credits Cisco Huston - Woody Guthrie recorded it as well, I think, with him or solo, as I remember. Another similar version is on COWPIE under the title New Rovin' Gambler, with different towns mentioned.

Popular with all the UK skiffle groups in the '50s. I've got on vinyl (or even shellac!),& could probably transcribe, Lonnie Donegan's version if no-one else comes up with the original.

I am looking for the words to a song I know as "Gamblin' Man". I looked in the mudcat database, but couldn't find it. The words that I know are: "Well, I am a gamblin' man, and I lay my money down, I've gambled for love and lost, now I'm leaving this town"

That's all I know of it and I would appreciate any help finding the rest of the words.

Thanks, Fred
