I saw Glenn Ohrlin today and asked him about the Rainbow Cafe'
also saw Ramblin' Jack Elliott, who is nominated for a Grammy
for a blues album he did...and he will leave here early to go
to the ceremony. I mentioned that he might look for Kendall
(Captain) and Jackie and Dan...re: utah Phillips tribute album.

I also was able to connect Jack with Tom Paley, who he mentioned
was one of his guitar mentors, who he had lost contact with.

I was able to play at the open mike, and was asked to return for
a third song, so that went well.

also we are taking video..i hope some folks will check out the
"cyber-cast"

I need to put this on my calendar. I would expect it to be a great event. I attended a Cowboy Gathering at Beebe, here in Arkansas before starting up a gathering in Mountain View. Glenn Ohrlin was a big help. It became one of my favorite events because of the character of the guests we brought in and the quality of the entertainment. Quite a few cowboys found their way to the Arkansas and Missouri highlands where land was relatively cheap at one time and settled on small spreads. Of course, Elko is the grand daddy of cowboy gatherings and there are none other that match it. Laurel, thanks for keeping us posted.

yep. here in the wild wild west there are a lot of buckaroos, poets, and unique individuals.

This year's event has cowboys and cowhunters from Florida and Louisiana here. Also special guests , including Cracker and Seminole cowboys from Florida, and Grammy-nominated Creole zydeco musician Geno Delafose.

I noticed that Glenn, along with others was scheduled for a sing-a-long. That is something I would like to see. Somewhere I saw a program that included others from Arkansas, Dusty Richards, Gail Burton and Dexter Priest. Have not seen Pop Wagner in ages. It would be good to see him again. Laurel, are Bob Bovee and Gail Heil on the program this year?

Looks like a great lineup as usual. One of these days I will have to make it out. Glenn Ohrlin's table at the Rainbow has been empty for a day or two so he is probably on the way out.

Would like to see the Gillette Brothers again. Also saw Tom Russell, Ian Tyson, and the Quebe Sisters on the program.

This is a great event and does not require spurs or chaps to get in. Main thing is an appreciation of good entertainment and mingling with some creative but down to earth people.

Howdy from Laurel to cowboy music and poetry fans near and far.

It is that time of year again.
This event is held in the middle of winter
because that is when there is a lull in the
ranch life that allows time off for this.

This is the 25th Annual Gathering, the Silver Anniversary.

You are invited to tune in to the festivities from Elko--
the 25th Annual Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering will be
streaming for your enjoyment, thanks to a couple of
videographers you may know!!

The Western Folklife Center in Elko, Nevada will be
hosting this event Jan 27-31 (and beyond) see
www.westernfolklife.org for more info or go to the
cybercast round up to see the schedule at
http://cybercast.westernfolklife.org/2009/.
We start on Wednesday the 27th with the Riders in the Sky
and we will be streaming until the final show,
"Cowboys, Hoboes and Thieves" on Sat. Jan. 31.

There are archived shows available now, and this year's
performances will be available on the web after the live
stream as well.

Yee Haw!
Laurel
