THIS is the kind of grand ol "Mudcat Scanvenger Request" that endeared my sould to this place.

I have nothing more to offer.

However, my hunch is....this little maverick of a lyric will captured REAL soon!

Thank You for posting Mr. Dalton - an approximate time period and geographic location with help and format ie. commercial tape, cd, concert, friend ... genre- my guess is country-western

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Thanks a lot for posting those, Terry. I've looked around and found nothing so far.

Well my mom had more of the lyrics than she thought but we are still missing some, and would like to know the time period and writer also. I am listing what we have of the song.

Traveling down the highway, one cold, cold winter day,
The man I overtaken was very old and gray.
He raised his hand to stop me: "Please let me ride your car.
I'm looking for my children and I know not where they are."

"missing lyrics here"

He turned his dimming eyes to me: "Is this my darling son?"
"Yes, dear Daddy, this is John, and I'm the only one.
Jack and Joe have long been gone to that eternal shore.
Now I'm so glad I found you, Dad; we'll never part no more."

Now boys, be kind to dear old Dad. You know he cares for you.
Treat him kind, return his love that he bestows on you,
For when he's gone, you'll never find another Dad so true.

Hi, Terry - I added a bit to the thread title to make it more specific. I have a hunch we can find this one, if we get an idea of the story behind the song, or a collection of snippets that you remember.

Sorry, had a look but couldn't find anything with that bit of information. Could you give us as much as you have? Maybe that might trigger some more information. Also, do you remember when this time was?

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum but I am looking for the lyrics to a song my mom ask for that we sang going on trips when I was young. I am now 56 years old so it has been a while. The song goes a little like this
Traveling down the highway, one cold and winter day.
A man I over taken was very old and grey.
There are several chorus to the song and my mom remembers most, but we would like to get the complete song. She is 82 and my dad died around 12 years ago and he was the one that got us all singing it.
Any help would be appreciated.
