He's obviously reading some of the lyrics, so it may be something he wrote on the spot. This site:

mentions that: In 1984, he toured the Soviet Union and recorded a duet with Russian pop singer Alexandre Gradsky, called "Let Us Begin (What Are We Making Weapons For?)." Also that year, he wrote and performed a song for the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, "The Gold and Beyond."

Also referred to is another Denver song "Just A Dream Away", but it's not clear whether he performed it at Sarajevo.

It sound very much like a translation of a local song, as it doesn't seem to scan very well.

I think John did a very competent job of it, although I'll bet he didn't perform it before or after that one performance. Still, I think it's a good display of his versatility, and of his beautiful voice.
