Nerd: quite right, Canray Fontenot.
Saunders is the correct spelling, I believe, though I have seen it spelt the other way.Have a think folks, kinds of chocolate biscuits(or are they cakes?). And as another clue, I think they originate in the country where the theme of the quiz lives, as does the answewr to the clue.

Greg,

if you mean the chicken person, it is definitely Sanders and not Saunders. Harland David Sanders was the entrepreneur and chef who founded Kentucky Fried Chicken. He was a "Kentucky Colonel," which is an honorary title given out by the state of Kentucky (sort of like a state-level knighthood!) Hence his trademarked name, Colonel Sanders.

You are unclear in your above post whether you do mean Colonel Sanders, or whether there is some other person who is really name Saunders but sometimes incorrectly called Sanders. Unless you clarify, it might be hard to guess the final clue.

OK Nerd. To clarify, here is the last clue that needs solving.

1) Likes his chocolate biscuits, not so fond of Saunders though.

It is nothing whatsover to do with Colonel Sanders or chickens in any shape or form. The chocolate biscuits(or some would say cakes) originate(I believe) in the same country as the main subject/theme of the whole quiz. By the way,I am writing in England. In America, where nomenclature is differewnt, I am not sure if the object referred to is a cake, or a cookie, or indeed something quite other.
The answer, it has been established, will be a black musician, as are all the other answers. And in this case, the black musician is not fond of Saunders.

The black musician who springs to mind for number one is Bo Diddley. He was always annoyed that people said he ripped the Bo Diddley Beat off of Red Saunders's "Hambone," and claimed to have been using the beat long before Saunders's hit.

But I can't think what the biscuit/cookie/cake would be.

McGee fell out with Saunders Terrell (aka Sonny Terry) in the 1970s, and they didn't play together after that.

Sonny died in 1986, Brownie in 1996.

Correct, Nerd. Great, that is the end of that quiz. Following in the old traditrions, I have added up scores, made a few estimates and decided arbitrarily
NERD: IT IS YOUR TURN TO SET THE NEXT QUIZ!!

So is Jean Redpath.

Well, I thought it would be! Maybe some of the quiz buffs were away on holiday. Or tobogganing, or something.
