I've searched and I've not found one, so here's a Mudcat category thread for hyperlinks to YouTube videos about food. Links to songs about beverages are also welcome.

If you don't know how to or don't care to make a hyperlink, you can post the video's website address. Or you could add the name of a song, and other people can post the link to the YouTube {or other online} video of it, if such a link exists.

**

I was inspired to start this thread because this thread was refreshed this morning:

Lyr/Chords Req: Cornbread and Butterbeans

To start this thread off, I'll repost two comments that I made this morning to that thread.

Thanks, in advance, for your participation in this thread.

**

Note-no pun intended- this new thread is a companion to this old thread food songs, and it is also related to other Mudcat threads on the subject of food.

Enjoy!

PoppaGator, because this thread was just refreshed, I just saw your 20 Aug 08 - 04:41 comment of PM about the Louis Jordan 's song "Beans And Cornbread".

Here a YouTube video of that delightful Louis Jordan jazz song:

Louis Jordan & The Tympany Five ~ Beans and Cornbread (1949)

[sound recording with photos of Louis Jordan]

-snip-

And here's a funny video of the same song using photos of a can of beans,a drawing of cornbread, and other photographs of food mentioned in this song:

Trivia Alert:
This song was part of the soundtrack for Spike Lee's Malcolm X movie.

Here's another cornbread and beans song that I found that on YouTube. This is sung and played to fiddle & banjo accompaniment:

Sheesham & Lotus -Corn Bread and Beans

"Teilhard Frost and Sam Allison sing and play the fiddle and banjo."

-snip-

Does anyone know the title, composer, and words to that song which isn't the same as the "Beans And Cornbread" song or the "Cornbread and Butterbeans" song?

Here's a link to a classic video:

Miriam Makeba - Into Yam

"A young Miriam Makeba performs Into Yam in the movie Come Back, Africa (1960)"

**

And here's another classic video which fits into this thread because of its title reference to a beverage:

Odetta - Water Boy

From viewer comments I learned that "this is a clip from the Bob Dylan Documentary "No Direction Home".

Also, in response to another viewer's comment about the "pow" sound that Odetta made a the end of each line "It's originally a prison work song-[the the sound of breaking rock with a mallet."

Here are two classic videos from Shirley Temple movies:

Shirley Temple : Animal Crackers In My Soup Extended Version

"Extended version of the musical video of the film Curly Top".

and
Shirley Temple - On The Good Ship Lollipop

"On The Good Ship Lollipop
From the movie Bright Eyes (1934)
Lyrics/Music S.Clare & R.Whiting"

-snip-

Oh, okay. "The Good Ship Lollipop" and its candy references may be a bit of a stretch in a thread about food & beverages. But besides mentioning candy the song mentions cake and "lemonade". So there ya go...The song fits this thread.

:o)

I really like this version of this old song:

Short'nin Bread by "The Blisters"

"Rare recording you don't see around
too much Great stomp record"
[sound recording with the lyrics to the song on the screen]

Here's a link to Hank Williams singing the song he wrote "Jambalaya On The Bayou":

Jambalaya on the Bayou - Hank Williams
[sound recording with one photo of Hank Williams; the video contributor also includes the words to this song]

-snip-

Here's an excerpt from http://www.cajungrocer.com/louisiana-jambalaya-mix-p-965.html :

"What is Jambalaya?

There are two distinct version of Jambalaya, Cajun and Creole. Creole dishes originated in New Orleans, a port city where many different cultures meshed together to produce a new culinary style.

Creole dishes generally use a wider range of ingredients than Cajun foods, with a stronger Spanish, African and even German influence. Although Creole and Cajun jambalayas are prepared similarly, the main difference is the Creole's use of tomatoes and seafood."

I've been noodling around youtube and this looks like a good place to share some videos. I'll try to stick to food and live performances.

Christine Lavin seems a good start. Here's breakfast with Christine and, of course, Cold Pizza for Breakfast
