Subject: RE: Folk scene in St. John's Newfoundland? From: Beer Date: 01 Feb 09 - 05:25 PM Auntie Crae's Store. Hope this works and you should recognize a few players. The young lady on the fiddle is from Ireland but I didn't get her name. Adrien http://picasaweb.google.com/adrien.doucette5/SallyAdrien?authkey=uZiTcfn-oME# |

Subject: RE: Folk scene in St. John's Newfoundland? From: Marion Date: 01 Feb 09 - 07:22 AM Thanks for the responses, guys. So Beer's favourite music venue is a grocery store? Cool. That website also looks useful. For the benefit of anybody else who may be going, here's what else I've found: Song circle on the last Thursday evening of the month at the Crow's Nest: info here. A guy I met on Youtube (Newfiefiddler - has several music videos up) sent me this message: "St. John's has three sessions as far as I know: Erin's Pub on Water Street (Friday evening), O'Reilly's Pub on George Street (Saturday evening) and Bridie Molly's on George Street (Sunday afternoon). I have been to either place to take in a session for a while now but I imagine they still have them there. " |

From: Beer Date: 29 Jan 09 - 08:53 AM O'Reilly's Open Mic Night 5pm - Chris Hennessey 10pm - Open Mic 12am - Rob Cook and Larry Foley Shamrock City Pub Open Mic with Chris Ryan and Ronnie Power from Kilkenny Krew By far the best I have ever attended is at "Auntie Crae's on Water Street. It is usually a Noon event going into the late afternoon . Unfortunately I do believe it is only on Tuesday or Wednesday. Some Newfoundland Catter could confirm this. Here is a site that you could bookmark and check on it as time draws near. Wish I could go. Winter or not. Beer (adrien) http://whatsongeorge.com/venue_list.php |
Subject: Folk scene in St. John's Newfoundland? From: Marion Date: 29 Jan 09 - 07:29 AM Hello all. Is anybody familiar with what's going on in St. John's, Newfoundland? I plan to be there on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and maybe Thursday in late May. I'm interested in sessions, song circles, or places to hear folkie bands. Thanks, Marion |
