Saw them at Moonbeams Festival on Friday and they were fantastic. Maartin Allcock is, of course, no longer with them but they work really well together as a band and had the place rocking to an unlikely collection of 80s classics played in a curious folkie style. Great fun but not one for the purists.

Hi Ruth, I've heard of these guys in the press probably because of Ade Edmondson's involvelent and do you know I think why not-after all it's all about getting together and having a good time 'thrashing' away on instruments and having no frills honest entertainment.    Saying that I'm not mad into 'folk fusion' as to me it turns some-thing as honest as traditional music into some-thing a bit, er ponsy. I'm not saying it's wrong to cross breed genres it's just not my cup of tea. Although I think these guys are simply covering songs using tradtional instruments? I think it's the raw energy of punk which would make this a winning combo though? I might add that I like a bit of punk and rock generally but if you don't it might make to see this genre in a different light. I'm intrigued...

Quite like the sound.... think it's a great idea.

Slightly resent them going straight to the top of festival billings because of Ade Edmonson's involvement. But I guess that is the way the world works!

"The Bad Shepherds play punk songs on folk instruments. Not as a gag, but because we really like the noise. We think the songs are better than people remember. We love folk instruments. It works. We do songs by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers The Jam, Sham 69, The Undertones, Talking Heads, Squeeze and others, even Kraftwerk! Alright, they're not all punk, but they come from roughly the same era. We've mostly given the songs a kind of Celtic feel, and we've stuck in the odd reel and jig here and there. But occassionally we just thrash! I've always thought the excitement of a reel taking off is the nearest thing to the excitement of watching punk live in the 70's."
