Oooh! that one's gonna bug me until I find it. I think it's on one of the Golden Ring albums on Folk-Legacy, but on couldn't find it right off.

As recorded by the New Lost City Ramblers:

Old Uncle Peter he got tight
Started upto heaven on a stormy night
The road bein' rough and him not well
He lost his way and went to...

(chorus) Hopalong Peter where ya goin'?
Hopalong Peter where ya goin'?
Hopalong Peter won't ya bear in mind
I ain't comin' home 'til gooseberry time.

Old Mother Hubbard and the dog were Dutch
The bow-legged rooster he hobbled on a crutch
Hen started back and the duck drank wine
The goose plays the fiddle on the pumkin vine.

(chorus)

Down in the barn yard playin' seven up
The old tom cat and the little yeller pup
The old Mother Hubbard she's pickin' out fleas
The rooster in the cream jar up to his knees.

(chorus)

I've got a sweet gal this here town
If she weighs an ounce she weighs 700 pounds
Every time the sweet girl turns around
The heel of her shoe makes a hole in the ground.

(chorus)

P.S. You didn't get it from me. ***BG***

Well Hellfire...I thought Hopalong Peter was the theme song to "Don Juan."

Original recording, I think, was by Fisher Hendley and His Aristocratic Pigs. (Apparently, acording to the New Lost City Ramblers Songbook, Mr. Hendley's sponsor was a meat packing house. Before I knew that I had such a wonderful image. . .) the NCLR recorded it on "Old Timey Songs for Children" and that's where Highwoods learned it. I love this song

There's a version of this tune on the Jerry Garcia & David Grisman CD Not for Kids Only.
