Here is a version done moderato as indicated on the music.

The Plowright version posted by Will is probably not as obscene as the first version, although Plowright's playing is much better.

The first guy must be a bluegrasser at heart, as they tend to play things just as fast as possible, and don't let things like too many notes get in the way.

If you can't play them all at that speed, just leave a few out.

Like a lot of bluegrass, the first guy just wrecks a really nice melody for the sake of his public display of masturbatory skills.IMHO

Interesting clip. There's a debate over this version by Plowright on YouTube as to whether he's playing too fast! I wonder what the debaters would think of Katsaris' version! Apparently, it's marked "moderato" on the music...

I love Gottschalk's compositions - they slide neatly between classical music of the period and the non-classical music to be heard in and around the southern states of the US.
