Subject: First and third Wednseday at the Beech,
From: Les in Chorlton
Date: 06 Feb 09 - 03:15 AM

Last Wednesday we made the possibly rash decision to meet at the Beech for a Singaround on the third Wednesday as well as the first.

I have to say the Singaround, which has been running for just over a year, has turned out much better than I had dared to hope. We fill the Snug each month and the quality of songs, tunes, stories and choruses has been extremely high - as has the friendship and good company brought by all.

The pub has had a serious refurbishment and with the odd exception has a good choice of cask ales.

Thanks to all those of you who have been. A warm invitation goes out to all those who have thought they might come, but didn't quite make it. Wednesday 18 February will be the next Singaround. Please pass this invitation to friends singers or otherwise, I guarantee a great evening of songs and tunes mostly but not exclusively traditional.

Les, I think it's a good shout. If it doesn't work we can always hold our hands up and go back to monthly... at least in the meantime we're helping to ensure our chances of keeping a venue!

Thanks Nigel,

when I think of all the people who have been to the Beech in the last year and all the others who said they might we should have no problem - if we get a few less - those that come will get more than the two songs we manage at the moment.

Cheers

Les

Thanks John.

I popped in today. Lots of interesting beer on offer including a Cherry Mild I think. I understand that good reviews have been appearing on various Manchester websites applauding the improvements and praising the beer!

Cheers

It certainly was good fun!

Thanks to Ged, Olga, Ken, Phil, Anne, John, those two friends of Ken's, Dave, Sue, Bob, Julia,& Derek, Dave, Nigel,Brian, Dave, Kate, Kate's friend, Jeanette, Martin and Helen, those three who thought might be The Nolan Sisters even though they didn't sing and that guy who sat by the door and said he might sing next time.

Certainly a busy night! Newcastle scared Man U and City got a much needed win.

Hope to see you all at the Ceilidh:

The Irish Club
High Lane, Chorlton
8 - 11pm Saturday 7 March

Cheers

The Ceilidh was excellent. The Leeds Occasional Band AKA Hands Across the Pennines were brilliant the dancers danced to a stand still to the peerless calling of Rob! And we raised £250 for Ghyll Head Outdoor Education Centre.

Next Wednesday is the third one of the month so to speak.

Who is up for an evening of songs and tunes mostly but not exclusively traditional at The Beech on Beech Road?

Oh and another Singaround 1 - 5pm then a Ceilidh Saturday 4 April, Chorlton Big Green Festival, st Clements church, High Lane, Chorlton
Cheers

Well tonight's the night. I have decided to forego the skinny dipping for modesty's sake, although I may remove my jumper at some point.

I will have a pint of lager in your memory Les, although I doubt it will be green. (green lager, whatever next)

Hope to see all you regulars later....

Ged

Thanks to Ged, Kate, er, that one, that one's friend, new bloke, Des or was it Denis no Des, the one next to Denis (or Des), Alan who came in late, er, know his face, not sure, the other one, not that one no the other one, and Nigel. It was a bit slow starting, but by the end it was a right good night.

Pip, couldn't have put it better myself :)

Come back Les, all is forgiven...

Seriously tho, thanks to all who came and especially to those who sang. It was indeed another excellent evening of homespun entertaintment. Evenings at the Beech just seem to get better and better (unlike TV!).

For those budding musico's among you, don't forget next Tue (24th) for the Beginners Tunes Session.

Cheers
Ged

Great night with many great songs. Perfect example of "mainly but not exclusively traditional"

The atmosphere was very absorbing and the small audience stayed throughout :0)

The Tunes Session is on the last Tuesday, when there are four Tuesdays in the month and the last Tuesday is also the fourth Tuesday. When there are five Tuesdays in the month, however, the Tunes Session is on the last Tuesday and the fourth Tuesday. At least, that's what's happening this month.

Oh and don't forget the afternoon of Saturday 4 April songs and tunes as part of the Big Green Festival and Saturday Night for the Big Green Ceilidh with John Jocys's Midgebites Band. all at St Clements Curch High Lane Cholrton
