Sheila Mosley was certainly doing something along these lines when I last spoke to her.

Worth a try:-

Just to update on this, and if anyone is thinking of doing similar, the mandolins were gratefully received by Changing Tunes, where I hope they will do some good...

Pete.

I think I'm going to give Jail Guitar Doors a try - but please keep suggestions coming.

Pete.

Perhaps someone like Folkworks could use them?

You might put them up on Freecycle and ask applicants to say why they want them. Then give them to the most deserving.

There is one based in Edinburgh that sends musical instruments to children in Palestine every few months. A mandolin would be small enough to go (basically it's two women taking what they can carry). Not sure where I've put the address, but Professor Nigel Osborne at the University of Edinburgh Music Department would know.

Hello Mucatters

Does anyone know of any UK (or anywhere for that matter) based charities specializing in provision of musical instruments?

I've two reasons for asking - firstly I've got a couple of mandolins that I was thinking of selling but thought I could give away to a good cause instead, and secondly, there are a lot of cheap, neglected instruments out there that just need a bit of setting up so they could be used to get someone making music. I'm sure there are a few folks like me out there with the time & skills to set these up for free.

Seems like a nice idea to me but I don't know how to go about it the right way...

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers,

Pete.
