Well those lovely lads from Alhambra (Pete & John) are trying to program in another MudGather at the Crediton Folk Weekend 2009, Hoorah!!!

Chatting to John yesterday we were thinking about times and there are 2 possibilities this year. We normally try for Saturday tea-time which is usually when we don't clash with too much in the way of concerts etc, so we are thinking about that. But it looks like there will be so much going on at Crediton (loads of really good guests to hear & sing with) that it might be better to programme the MudGather for the Sunday lunchtime before the Pirates Feast!

It would be at the Half Moon as usual, but definitely in the large back room as we 'came a cropper' last year when so many people turned up, and people coming in out of the rain.

Saturday tea-time would be about 2 hours squeezed in between concerts (clashing a bit too) and we wouldn't be able to over-run as they'd need set-up time.

Sunday lunchtime would depend on their opening time and we'd have at least 2 hours before people need to set up for the Feast, but it looks like the best possibility to me!

Obviously we're in John's hands, he's already involved in the programming jigsaw puzzle, but it would be nice to get your opinions so I can give hime some feedback apart from just my own! I'll send him a link to this thread & maybe he'll drop in sometime when he has a spare moment.

What do Catters think? And who's coming?

We'll find out eventually what times John has programmed us to perform, but I think you could be right that Sunday lunchtime would be better for a Mudgather than Saturday afternoon.

Official website - Crediton Folk Weekend (in Cheriton Fitzpaine!)

actually if you hold a festival in one town and call it after a nearby one because it's bigger and people have heard of it I think you might as well go the whole hog and call it the Exeter folk weekend :-)

will try to get down if I haven't upset too many mudcats in the meantime! :-)

Well spotted Rafflesbear, though I must admit I'm fairly used to it being called 'Crediton' despite it being held at Cheriton Fitzpaine for the past couple of years.

I've not been attending very long but I know it started at Crediton originally and has moved around to at least two other local towns/villages before its current location. I was just chatting to John Lee and he explained that they felt it was better to keep the original name than to change it each time they changed location, continuity I guess! Anyway, you certainly haven't upset me and I hope I haven't confused anyone *grin*

So, who else is coming to Cheriton Fitzpaine?

This festival having started in Crediton and moved to better venues in villages nearby should retain its name as it is !
I will be there of course.

Looks like the MudGather will be Sunday lunchtime at the Half Moon *hoorah* so we can eat plenty of chocolate in preparation for the Pirates Feast!!!

John & Pete are working on the running order which is probably mostly sorted now, but as I recall they don't put it up on the web-page so you'll need a programme!

As it's not in the school holiday I probably won't make it this year, though I had a great time last year - it's a long way to travel from Buckinghamshire on a Friday after work & then travel back Sunday afternoon for work on Monday - roll on retirement!

Sorry you won't be joining us Lucy, I'm hoping that all in the Gower will raise a glass to us, while we'll all be raising a glass to Andrew *grin* Have a Fab weekend (and a well-deserved rest) & see you at Bude Fest!!!

Sunray: are you not about for the MudGather on the Sunday? If not, please make yourself known, I'll try to remember to wear my Mudcat badge!

GeorgianSilver: You're another Catter I'm waiting to meet, hope I don't have to wait till next year!

Hopefully I should be doing a couple of sets at Crediton if John's got the program sorted, one Friday, one Saturday. Hope I'll see lots of friendly faces!

Hils, I suggested that we all trooped down to the shore and waved at Devon where you all were, but I was greeted with several colourful suggestions (some not physically impossible) as to what I could do! but glasses were raised, to you all.

Barry, these mudgathers in the UK happen often in different areas where there are festivals and often different groups of catters meet at different festivals. Sad to have missed this one.
Best wishes, Mike.

Missed meeting you Tug, another place sometime!!

Crediton was lovely (as usual), it rained (as usual) and I reckon we sank a few beers between us *grin* And yes, the food at both churches was marvellous!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed doing a couple of sets & there were a lot of very talented singers and musicians there too.

Many thanks to all who came to the MudGather (sorry you had to go early Kitty), thankfully it wasn't as chaotic as last year's. I think it worked better being on the Sunday lunchtime especially as I was able to go to concerts almost all day Saturday. Stanley Accrington popped in for a look but had disappeared before I managed to pass him the pirate hat!

So, here's the Register:
