Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Susanne (skw) Date: 07 Dec 08 - 09:52 PM And (weather permitting) have them play outside while the dancers hog the dance floor? Anyway, programme sounds good to me, Doug! I'm beginning to look forward to it. |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Doug Chadwick Date: 07 Dec 08 - 04:14 PM The size of the hall might be a bit of a problem, Chas. Once you've got a few tables and chairs and the band, there's not a lot of room left for dancing. The garden is a good deal bigger though. Could you dance on grass? If so, we could run it alongside the barbecue during the afternoon, providing not too many people have put up tents. As this would be dependant on the uncertain British weather, it would be a bit risky booking a pukka ceilidh band. Perhaps we could we could improvise using any musicians who cared to turn up. DC |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Fidjit Date: 04 Dec 08 - 06:29 PM Ah. What no Ceilidh ??? Doug do you remember Kiel? There we had a great Ceilidh did we not? Must have a Ceilidh. Chas |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Doug Chadwick Date: 04 Dec 08 - 04:33 PM I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the venue I had hoped to get is not available as a higher priority booking has taken it for that weekend. The good news is that I have an alternative. The new venue does not have as good facilities as the first one. There are no showers, I'm afraid, but there are toilets and a kitchen. Whereas the kitchen at the first site could be used to prepare meals for groups of around 40 people, this kitchen is fairly basic. It has a small cooker, fridge, microwave oven and sink but is normally used to make tea and coffee. There are, however, shops and a selection of different types of take-away food outlets just across the road. Although there is not as much room as at the campsite, there is a garden where tents can be put up and a car park and additional hard standing for camper vans and the like. A public car park is available a short distance away for any overspill from day visitors who may care to join us. As before, there are no beds but indoor floor space is available. There are 3 rooms available separate from the main hall for those who like their privacy or who want to sleep while others sit up talking late into the night. There are neighbouring residential properties so we would have to limit the noise late at night. If you think that this new venue would be suitable, then the weekend is on. My first thoughts on a programme are: Friday evening: Get-to-know-you informal sing around/session at the venue Saturday afternoon: Cook-it-yourself barbecue (I'll provide the fires – you provide and cook your own food) Saturday Evening Mixed tunes/songs session at a local pub, if I can persuade a friendly landlord Sunday Cultural visit – depending on transport: Lincoln is about an hour's drive away – the cathedral and castle are both well worth a visit. Grimsby has a fishing heritage centre. Sunday evening Open mic at the venue Monday Whatever the survivors want to do All of the above are open to suggestions and improvements, which may be ignored, and are subject to change right up to the moment they actually happen. I would propose inviting other, non-MudCatter, local musicians to join us. DC |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Susanne (skw) Date: 02 Dec 08 - 08:12 PM Well, nobody HAS had any better ideas, it seems (and remembering the Hull gathering and all the nice 'Catters I met there - Doug for one - it would be difficult to come up with something better than going back to that area!). I've arranged the dates for my annual holiday so as to be there on May 1. Doug, are you out there? |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Fidjit Date: 01 Dec 08 - 10:12 AM If nobody has any better ideas, I'd be prepared to try to organise something near to Grimsby (UK) for the week-end of 1st - 4th May 2009. Doug. Is this still viable?? Trying to get my 2009 dates organized. Chas |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 16 Oct 08 - 05:23 PM Although nobody asked for me I still am thinking it over. I should like to come so much, but as a pensioner I have more time than money. So let it be 50 to 70%; I don't want to let a fellow scoutmaster down. Anybody in Germany who could give me a lift for a share in the transport costs? (From any convenient place on the way I'm able to get to by train.) Full of hope to see many of you again Wilfried |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Eric the Viking Date: 14 Oct 08 - 02:30 PM I don't hear much nowadays living so far away. Letty is back in the Netherlands, Greg is still in Lincs (His business is doing really well I believe) Wolfgang often posts on the cat. We had some fun at those first fledgling eurogathers dodn't we? Bill posts sometimes. (We get to natter on the phone now and then)Would love to get to another one, I don't get to any at all recently.(sigh) |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Susanne (skw) Date: 12 Oct 08 - 05:36 PM As it's far ahead I've got a good chance of getting it included in the dates of my annual holiday 2009. Which means I'll have the car to sleep in, and I might even be able to give Andy a lift from Stansted Airport. Howzat? BTW, has anybody heard from Wolfgang, Greg, or Lettie? |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Zany Mouse Date: 11 Oct 08 - 07:58 AM It sounds good to me but depends on where I will be living by then. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: John MacKenzie Date: 11 Oct 08 - 06:14 AM Whatever weekend you chose it would clash with something. There are too many festivals. I wonder if there will be so many next year, nobody seems to have any money to spend these days. I know I took the coach to Sidmouth this year, as I couldn't afford the fuel. It must be the same for others. JM |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: MudGuard Date: 10 Oct 08 - 01:47 AM Sounds good. Have to find a way to finance the trip. And have to find a way to get from airport (probably Stansted) to there. Indoor floor space required. But as I am between 99.99999% and 100% audience, it only makes sense for me to come if there are enough musicians around ... |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Fidjit Date: 18 Sep 08 - 06:36 AM Interesting. Like the idea. Not sure as yet. Too early to tell what I'll be doing. Long time since I was in Grimsby. Wonder what she's doing now? Ah That's another story. (Have to check with my Solicitor) Did I say that I used to have a bicycle when I was younger. Chas |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Gulliver Date: 17 Sep 08 - 11:03 PM Hi Doug, sure, why not? Keep in touch, Don |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Susanne (skw) Date: 17 Sep 08 - 07:07 PM Doug, that sounds quite attractive, thanks! As far as I can tell this far ahead, I'll be there. |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2009 From: Jack Campin Date: 17 Sep 08 - 06:55 PM Sounds feasible for me, though I haven't costed out the train from Edinburgh yet. I'd need a floor (no way am I trusting my instruments to a tent). |

Subject: Eurogathering 2009 From: Doug Chadwick Date: 17 Sep 08 - 04:09 PM Are we having one? If nobody has any better ideas, I'd be prepared to try to organise something near to Grimsby (UK) for the week-end of 1st - 4th May 2009. Providing no-one has already booked it ahead of me, it would be based at a campsite so there would be plenty of room for tents, caravans, camper vans etc. Alternatively, there would be plenty of clean floor space (no beds, I'm afraid) for those who want to sleep inside. Good quality kitchen and toilet facilities would be available. There are plenty of B&B's in Cleethorpes, about 3 miles away. I know this is the bank holiday week-end and lots of other things will be going on but, by tradition, Eurogatherings take place over the first full weekend in May. Anyway, I am likely to be booked up for the rest of the month so it is the only time I could do it. If there is any interest, I would need a show of hands, so that I can reserve the building. DC |
