Great pic of Michael and Linda - in fact they're all great photos! I love the photos of Don Gabbert and of Emily Dugas!

Yes, that's mudcatter Michael Harrison, aka Texas Guest, a very fine performer and fixture in the Dallas music scene.

Nice photos, Phil! Thanks for posting them.

In the "King and Harrison" photo--he was at Jed Marum's concert in Arlington last year, right?

Hi, Sharon. I'll get some RtH pics to you, but probably not 'til the weekend as the day job is very demanding this week. Cheers.

Phil, thanks for the shirt and it was great to see you. Any good pics this year?

Round the House had a great time. We loved playing on the big stages, but had our biggest audience at the pub stage on Saturday around dinner.

Agreed, too many excellent musicians to catch them all. I missed two or three sets I really wanted to catch, probably because I took time to play a few tunes, socialize with friends old and new, and go to the Liz Carroll fiddle workshop

It was a great weekend. Friday night attendance was 40% greater than last year and they had to start selling food/drink tickets reserved for Sunday on Saturday to have enough to go around. There were lucky beer treasure hunt winners from Texas, Arkansas and Kansas. Sorry I didn't get everyone's name. As usual there were more performers than I was able to see, so I guess we'll have to do it all again next year.

Oh, if any mudcatters want a peace button that says: make music not war, I'll have some to pass out. Just ask.

What was weird about the beer store incident was that the bus was one of those big yellow school buses! There were only 5 of us on it (Winfield folks, Paul, Deanna and me) and I couldn't believe how the driver turned it around in that little parking lot. Tonight I am practicng beer drinking so I'll have it right by Friday. Hope that driver is there this weekend.

Bill -
You only have to take classes if you are from Arkansas; folks in Texas already know how to drink beer. I hadn't heard the story about mad Irishmen highjacking a bus and forcing them to drive to the beer store, but there's probably a song in there somewhere (if not a screenplay). I know where Paul was 4 or 5 hours later. He was sitting on a couch next to Seamus Kennedy playing music with kids from Irish Spring.

Hi Phil, Do you have to take a TABC class to drink at the festival??? Sign me up! There is a gang coming from Arkansas and most are staying at the festival hotel. The shuttle is a great way to get back and forth without worriying about driving. Last year, late Sat night, the bus even stopped at the beer store so Paul and few others could stock up for the late night session.
See you Fri,
Bill & Deanna

Let's run this down the page again as a reminder that NTIF starts this Friday. The weather forecast is good for Friday and Saturday – warm partly cloudy days and cool evenings – with a chance of rain on Sunday. Hope to see some of ya'll there.

Yup, the brave volunteers of the setup crew will get access to the fairgrounds Thursday morning, and by Friday at 6:00 everything will be up and running for the rest of us. Hey, I hear that Round the House is playing the Tipparary Inn in Dallas on Saturday night during the festival. Good bar, good gig.

Claire - I may be in Tucson. I've been talking to Richard Park and the festival folks recently. They are pleading low budget (I'm sure it's true) but seem seriously interested. We'll see.

I'll be in Austin for NTIF, but am actually playing in Dallas on the Friday night (at Trinity Hall).

Sharon -
As it turns out I have seen John Doyle before, I think maybe with Eileen Ivers. Some quality time with YouTube sparked my poor memory. He'll be in Dallas next week performing with Joan Baez.

We're still a couple weeks out from NTIF, but I have to go to TABC class this weekend to renew my alcohol server permit. Oh well, it's always good to have an alternative occupation, particularly in this economy.

See you in a couple weeks.

Phil,
Liz Carroll and John Doyle will just blow your socks off! I have not heard most of the others live, but Beoga will be in Tucson next weekend, so we'll get a preview.

See ya soon

Maggie, you and Wesley and the rest of Tarrant County are cordially invited. The Fair Park rail station will be open for next year's NTIF so you will be able to make the whole trip by train – TRE from Cowtown to Big D and then DART to Fair Park.

It is an interesting lineup, Jed. I've never seen any of the headliners, other than Ed and Johnny and Jeff, perform live and I expect to come away with some new favorites.

Luckily, festival provides shuttles for performers, so you don't need to worry about the traffic.

I love the idea that you can get there via train and bus. Makes it so much easier than playing bumper cars through Dallas on the various freeways.

I tend to subscribe to Amon Carter's view of Dallas--there is little reason to ever have to go there--but there are temptations, to be sure!

Hi, Sharon. Michelle and I will be there all three days and are looking forward to seeing and the rest of the group again.

The 2009 North Texas Irish Festival will be at Fair Park in Dallas. The schedule is:
Friday March 6th        6:00 pm           11:00 pm
Saturday March 7th        10:30 am   11:30 pm
Sunday March 8th        11:30 am   7:30 pm

Tons of performer and festival information can be found at http://www.ntif.org/ .   A couple things to note: DART will be running buses between the Pearl Street Station and NTIF – included in the price of your train ticket. The train ticket will also get you a couple bucks off admission to the festival. All that and free parking at the Park 'n Ride. Can't beat it. If you are going to the King Tut exhibit hang on to your NTIF ticket to get a free audio tour at King Tut. Let's see, what else? Also, be sure to check out the map on the web site since the layout of the festival is different this year because of construction at Fair Park.

I'll be pouring beer on Saturday 1:30-4:30 and on Sunday 11:00-2:30. Like past years I'd be delighted to buy a beer for any Mudcatter that stops by. I don't know at which beer stand that I'll be working, so it will be like a treasure hunt this year. If you can find me you get a beer. Hi all
Just wondering who else is going to be at NTIF.

Round the House (my band) is performing Friday night, Sat and Sunday. We're also doing a workshop on playing for dancers on Saturday around noon.

Hope to meet up with a few of you there.

Sharon
