There was a pop tune in 1959 called La Plume de Ma Tante. It came out during the run of a Broadway musical of the same name. Was there any connection between the song and the musical? All my websearch efforts to join the two have failed to find any connection.

I believe that the song was in the show but I am not certain of it.
My memory fails me after 50 long years.

Yes, pavane, that's the song. It says, Lyrics by: Al Hoffman, Dick Manning, whereas, according to the Internet Broadway Database, the musical had Lyrics: Ross Parker, Francis Blanche, so that's pretty good evidence that the song was not taken from the musical. Still, the song came out while the musical was running, leaving open the possibility that the former was "inspired" by the latter.

Well, let's post the lyrics.

LA PLUME DE MA TANTE
(Al Hoffman & Dick Manning)
[recorded by Hugo & Luigi - charted #86 in June, 1959]

La la la la la, la La la la la la la la;
La la la la la, la la la la la la la la.

La plume de ma tante
Est sur le bureau de mon oncle,
Le papier de mon oncle
Est sur le bureau de ma tante.
[repeat]

The pen of my aunt
Is on the bureau of my uncle,
The paper of my uncle
Is on the bureau of my aunt.

If you don't parlez vous français
Then this will be Greek to you,
If you can't figure out what the words are all about
Just sing la la la la loo

La la la La plume de ma tante
Est sur le bureau de mon oncle,
Le papier de mon oncle
Est sur la bureau de ma tante.

[repeat all the la la's]

Thread creep: once in Canada a few years ago I heard a wonderful French song that was all the common French words Americans know strung together, like, "Menu, parlez vouz, s'il vous plait, raclette ..."

Does anyone know the song I am talking about, who wrote it or where to find it? You can PM me or contribute to the thread creep here.

If I recall, that song is on youtube but the French version. I do believe, the English version was Mitch Millers children song album. which was the hit in the US
