Sept 12-14, if you like Irish fests the ICONS Festival is held at the Canton Irsh Cultural center. Canton is just outside of Boston.

Second the motion for Celtic Colours; especially for MC FAt's enquiry. Cape Breton is not that far away from New England and you get to travel through gorgeous New Brunswick en route!

San Diego has enjoyed the Adams Avenue Roots Festival for several years now. It occurs over a weekend in April. I have appended the website information for those who might be interested (west coasters take note). This is not a commercial enterprise but a cooperative local effort to provide all forms of roots and folk performers in multiple venues, indoor and out.

The Fox Valley Folk Festival on Labor Day Weekend in September also has mostly trad/trad oriented music.

The weekend after there is another good one the Goderich Celtic Festival

The Folk Music Society of N.Y. puts on a Festival of Traditional Music. It has been in November, but may be in October in 2009. It may be outside the city this year. It has outstanding music. Look at www.eisteddfod-ny.org or www.folkmusicny.org.
    In Brooklyn, N.Y. the Park Slope Jamboree, put on by Jim Reems at the Ethical Culture Society is a fantastic Old Time & Bluegrass festival in September.

The Arkansas Folk Festival in Mountain View, Arkansas has had a leaning toward traditional music. The concerts at the Ozark Folk Center tend to be primarily traditional and the impromptu gatherings around the court square include traditional music, bluegrass,and gospel. The informal gatherings are interesting and anyone can join in. Some of the music is very good, some is just regular folks enjoying themselves. This festival is built around the third Saturday in April. Where the Arkansas Folk Festival differs from most folk festivals is the reliance on grass roots music rather than professional folk musicians. A lot of folk in this area take their music seriously and some good music can be found. Many musicians converge on Mountain View at this time for reunions with old friends and can be found throughout the town.

Yes I spotted Princeton but it is a rather long flight time from the U K, but thanks all the same.We thought that it might be possible to link the Milwaukee Irish Fest( I went there 10 years ago for the Summer School, pretty damn good) with another Festival possibly Princeton

The Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival will be happening on 26 & 27 September in 2009. Portsmouth is only an hour's drive North of Bostpn and we do emphasise traditional shanties and forebitters - Tom
