Subject: Lyr Add: BARBARA ALLEN (Mose 'Clear Rock' Platt) From: GUEST,Roberto Date: 20 Feb 09 - 10:11 AM O Bobby (Barb'ry) cried, poor thing she moaned O what whooping and hollering! I know you're sick, you're very pale Young man, you're slowly dying Go bring me back my pony here I'll send away my servant Go bring my love a-here this day And let her gaze upon me Oh the more she looked when she first goodbye She looked right deep with sorrow I know he saw my own true love True willful Barbara Allen Now the loved one died on a Christmas day My loved one died one Monday They buried them both underneath the grave And they placed the soil upon them him Now coffee grows on white oak trees And the river flows with brandy And the sweetest love that ever I knew And it was poor Barbara Allen Now plant this grave a bramble brier On Rosy's grave plant a brier So they grow until they reach the sky When the knot was tied in Ohio O let the world know that I died for love I died right weeping and moaning I said farewell when the corpse come along True willful Barbara Allen Now sixteen horses they may ride O bring me back my lover The loved one's gone to meet the grave And it's fare-you-well, Barbara Allen |

Subject: Lyr Req: Mose Platt's Barbara Allen From: John Minear Date: 19 Feb 09 - 07:17 AM I posted this request in the "Bobby Allen" thread but decided to make it more direct. Does anyone have the lyrics to Mose "Clear Rock" Platt's version of "Barbara Allen" found on "Field Recordings, Vol. 6: Texas, 1933-1958," recorded by Lomax? I don't have access to the liner notes and don't know if Lomax printed out the lyrics. Even if he did they still need to be checked out and listened to by some contemporary ears. There are sometimes discrepancies or "correctional" differences between what the Lomaxes actually recorded and what they print, which is the case with the Queen Hines version of "Bobby Allen" in the above mentioned thread. I would appreciate any help on this that is out there. |
