Hi Les

Many thanks for inviting us to play at Faldingworth Live - and many thanks for the great hospitality from yourself and all of the crew... we thoroughly enjoyed the night.

Question: Jimmy still thinks the women sang better than the men, but Val thinks the men did even better... who do you think were best or shall we call it a draw?

All the best

Mac & Saul have been playing together since the late 90's when they were members of the Kings of Callicutt with Eliza Carthy. They both went on to perform with mercury prize nominees Waterson:Carthy, Saul eventually joining the band. They were finalists in BBC Radio 2's Young Tradition Award and have numerous aclaimed recordings from right across the folk genres. Having gone down a storm at Glastonbury festival 2008 they are pleased welcome simoncaremusic on board as their agent and are looking forward to the 2009 festival season.

Mac is the prodigy of Hammered Dulcimer player Jim Couza and has played a pivotal role raising the profile of the Dulcimer during the past 20 years. Half of the virtuosic duo Cythara Mac was also a member of folk rock outfit Pressgang before joining Saul in the Kings of Calicutt. Mac is currently a member of Jennifer Crook's band and continues to push his instrument into new territory having appeared with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and most recently joining alternative pop act Tina Mali.

Saul's love of traditional music was born out of playing and dancing for his local Morris side in Watford where he quickly developed into one of the finest Melodeon players in the country. "Discovered" by Eliza Carthy he is now best known for his work with the Kings of Calicutt, Waterson:Carthy and most recently Faustus. Saul has become a ubiquitous force on the folk circuit and is still at the forefront of traditional dance with his ceilidh bands Random and Whapweasle.

We play mostly in the north east of England, and are happy to travel further afield

Jimmy - the ji

Acoustic 6 and 12 string guitars

Val - the va

Vocals
Acoustic 6 and 12 string guitars

Our repertoire is mainly contemporary with a growing number of self-penned songs. We both play 6 and 12 string guitars and both sing. The combination of both voices and contrasting guitar styles makes for a gentle and relaxed sound.

We regularly perform at singarounds, residents nights etc, and have played floor spots on professional guest nights featuring: Bob Fox, Dick Gaughan, Harvey Andrews, Martin Simpson, Roy Bailey, and Spiers & Boden.

jiva have also played official support slots for: Allan Taylor, Anthony John Clarke, Ben Sands, Cathryn Craig & Brian Willoughby, Bram Taylor, Dana & Susan Robinson, George Welch, Ian Bruce, Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies, Jim Bainbridge, Joe Stead, Marian Bradfield, Pegleg Ferret, Pete Quinn, Simon Haworth & Andy May, Steve & Kristi Nebel, and Tom McConville.
