Well is been all go at Dent HQ and we have quite a bit of news.
firstly we have an outstanding international line up for Dent 2009...

Artists playing the main marquee
Adrian Edmondson and The Bad Shepherds ~ Ade and his superb band play
punk songs in folk a style!
Transglobal Underground~ one of the most original Roots Dance Fusion
acts on earth!
Solas~ the most popular, influential, and exciting Celtic band to
ever emerge from the United States.
Andy Irvine~ a folk legend! One time member of Planxty and Woody
Guthrie's representative on earth!
Tony Wilson~ our resident story teller and a very fine folk singer to
boot!
Kila ~ one of Ireland's most innovative and exciting and unique
bands.
The Karine Polwart Trio~ Outstanding multi award winning Scots
songwriter.
Faustus~ three of the most pivotal players in the English roots
revival of the past decade.
Chris Wood ~winner of the BBC Folk Awards 2009 best singer and best
album!
The Black Umfolosi 5~ sweet acapella singing and captivating dancing
from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Keith Donnelly and Les Barker as 'Idiot and Friend' ~ actually we
suspect their both idiots!
Katalena ~we're celebrating Sedbergh's links with Slovenia, with
Slovenia's greatest roots music band!

And a great programme of free events
Children's Songs, Stories, Puppets, Street Theatre and Crafts. Music
in the The Beer Tent with guests of the festival. The Session Tent
hosted by Bill Lloyd and The Lakeland Fiddles. Song walks from the
festival site with David Burbidge. Workshops in Appalachian Dance, New Tunes, Circus Skills, Arabic Dance and more. Dance spots from invited dance teams and The Legendary Dent Folk Festival Ceilidh!!!

Stunning new site!
As you may well know the festival is moving to a new site near
Sedbergh. In a nutshell we have outgrown our original site in Dentdale and although we are very sad to leave we didn't really have much choice if the festival was to continue. So we are moving to an
absolutely stunning setting at Buck Bank Farm under the Howgill Fells
near Sedbergh, Englands book town. If you would like to read the full
background to this move see our website. There will be a free shuttle
bus to and from Sedbergh from the site to get supplies and visit the
local pubs for a few tunes!

This year we will have on site camping!
We're really pleased about this as many of our regulars have asked
us over the years to run a festival campsite. By camping on the
festival site you will be making a major contribution to the
sustainability of the festival. The camping will be basic but
comfortable. The site is in a fantastic setting and you'll be with a
great crowd of other festival goers, so lots of potential for sessions and meeting people from all over the place with a shared passion for music. We will have a limited amount of camping tickets available for people who wish to camp on the site and just attend our free events or are just coming to play tunes in the sunshine and go for a walk.

Here's an attempt at an explanation....
It's a similar situation happening here, as happened a wee while back at Holmfirth.
The organisers of the 'Dent Folk Festival' of recent years (as explained in the opening post above) wish to move 'on' and make their festival 'bigger' - this means they've moved out of Dent completely - but have retained the 'name' as they've earned a good reputation as an excellent festival with that name.
However....
the townsfolk/shops/businesses etc of Dent felt (shall we say) somewhat abandoned by the move up the road and have elected to organise their own festival so that the town itself retains that particular week-end's character and economy, which had become the norm for the town.

More or less the same scenario as Holfirth endured not so long back - and now there are two separate fests, over that way, as a result.

I wish both fests great success and I sincerely hope the two draw even more folk to the Dales, this summer, than is usual.

At least at Holmfirth they had enough sense to have them over separate weekends. As far as I can see the one in Dent is free.

Which is one hell of a line up for a free festival.

You will find camping as little as £4pppn at Condor Farm and Millbeck campsite, they do not take bookings but you will get on at Millbeck if Condor is full.

Camping at Condor farm is excellent, plus you can have a full breakfast cooked by Mick (the owner and barman in the sun) in the farm kitchen in the morning. There's also going to be a marquee(with beer) set up on the site for jam sessions through out the weekend.

Condor is certainly a good cheap site, breakfast fantastic and stayed on it many times.

'tother sites amenities are pretty good but prices are on the side of extortianate.

Sorry to miss me ow;ld mate Muppett and generaly loved Dent Festival but echo Daves sentiments.We have been treat very badly by the "people of Dent" over the last three years; especially in one certain pub who served us a if they was doing us the favour; vowed I would never give them my patronage again, so will be at the not the Dent festival that is but is being held at Sedberagh

Two festivals within a few miles and the same weekend will certainly split the party. I would like to think I was in two minds but regretably I am in three. Want to see my fellow Wiganer Jon Brindley in the beer tent at the Sedburgh festival Friday night,(very talented chap, check his web site). Will be working at Four Fools Festival, Preston for Moor & Coast Sat & Sunday day time and don't know which location to make for Saturday night. Maybe to show no favouritism might try for Dent on Saturday, line up looks great and the beer is always better than excellent there - three festivals in just the one weekend, so much choice so little time.

A personal observation John based on personal treatment.

I would have thought problems in the pub would be enough; dont want to go unto details of my experiances, nor is there the need.

Some people might think they were getting good value and treatment from certain services and people, I just thought otherwise.

Dent is a lovely place, go and enjoy yorself and make your own mind up.
