Bob(deckman)Nelson, here in the Seattle area. I previously started a thread about the "ethics of archiving." I found many useful postings to that thread. I now am starting another thread on archiving issues.

Background ... I've started a two year project of converting my 55 years of personal tape recordings into digital format, making archive quality CD's of them, and cross indexing all the material.

Here are some specific questions:

Does anyone have an affordable source for "audio splicing tape?

Does anyone have a source for virgin storage boxes, low acid, 7" reel to reel tapes, that cost less than $1:50 each?

I have found an affordable source of "blue paper leader tape." Ask me.

Yesterday I found a treasure in my collection. I'm NOT going to mention any of the performers names yet ... the minute I do that, I know I'll ger besieged for requests of copies of this recording.

This tape was recorded in 1955 or 1956, the notes are very hard to read, of a live concert that happenned in Seattle. Parts of this quarter inch tape are stable, yet others fracture easily. I have made probably 5 splices within 30" lineal inches of magnetic tape ... yet it keeps falling apart. Any suggestions?

Bob ... in Everett ... where all the neighbor's mail box posts are rotten and they pick up their mail off the ground!
