A dear old friend passed yesterday, mid 80's retired surgeon, member of MENSA, opera singer, storyteller and one hell of a human being. I'm really bummed out.

Euclid can be heard on Gordon Bok's February Tapes and here:

Play of the Lady Odivere
a masterpiece from Gordon Bok and friends.

He also did a great job on Ancient Music by Ezra Pound.

Euclid also diagnosed Jacqui's illness and saved her from some unpleasant side effects. I never met him but know him from Kendall and Jacqui's stories. RIP.

I don't recall him making it to our February gatherings too much in recent years, though we were talking about him just last week. I once saw him perform with Pete Seeger and others at Rockland's Celebration of Sail about seven or eight years back. What a wonderful performer.

We stayed with him last year and I loved him - the crusty old bugger did his best to get under my skin but, after living with Kendall, I've learned to deal with that sort of behaviour.

It was a real priviledge to meet Euclid.

Last night I got this picture of Euclid, Helen and Utah all sitting there together - what a meeting that would be!

We both send our sympathy to his family. We had the honor of working with Dr. Hanbury in Belfast as nursing staff, and also as care givers for him on occassion. He became a friend and mentor. The smartest man I ever knew, and beneath the tough "what are you doing sugar", also one of the nicest. We will both miss him.

I missed this thread, as you are well aware, Kendall.

Never heard of the lad. But, from what I have read, and you have said, and felt, he was one heck of a lad.

RIP

Take care, Kendall, as best you can.

Dear Cafe patrons,

I'm an obituary writer for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. We'd like to do a feature article on Dr. Hanbury. You seem to have some very interesting stories to tell. Please contact me if you'd like to contribute to the article. My email is jdclarke@timesdispatch.com and my phone number is (804) 649-6115. We're hoping to print the article in the Wednesday Feb 25th paper. I would need your first and last name and current home town for attribution in order to use your comments. Thank you.

John
