Subject: Summer Music Party (Sommermusikfest)
From: Piers Plowman
Date: 23 Feb 09 - 09:11 AM

The other day, I heard an interview on the radio with Ruediger Oppermann, a harpist and organizer of musical events. I had never heard of him before, but he seems to be someone who has been involved with (for lack of a better term) World Music for a long time.

He mentioned this "party" ("Fest" means "party" in German) during the interview and he attaches importance to the distinction between a "Fest" and a "Festival". It takes place at a youth hostel (with room for tents) in a rather isolated place in the north of the German province of Hesse called Schwarzenborn.

He doesn't advertise it, so one is either invited, told, sees it on his website, or finds out about it some other way, like hearing about it on the radio.

I live in southern Lower Saxony, which is barely a stone's throw from northern Hesse, so I have thought about possibly registering. There are lots of workshops and plenty of time for people to play and/or dance together, which is the point for him.

Has anyone here been to one of the previous ones or know anything about this event, Ruediger Oppermann, or anything else vaguely connected to this subject?

Sorry, there doesn't seem to be a page in English, unless I missed it.

Ruediger Oppermann's main page

I couldn't find an English version of it, either.
