Hey there, everyone. I noticed in my global search for the song "The Rose of Trelawney", that in the Mudcat thread "Songs about World War I" the song is mentioned a poem called "Death Of A Soldier" by Ron Trueman-Border. It was posted by Geordie-Peorgie, and it says in line 28:
The sergeant-at-arms took his rifle away
When they found him days later in a ditch-water grave
He had his arms round a dead man, a German they say
And he was singing "The Rose Of Trelawney"

This is the one and only reference I have been able to find about this song. I know it exists somewhere, but I don't know how I know. I'm searching everywhere for this song, Rose of Trelawney, and would so appreciate it if anyone knew anything about it, and would tell me.
Thanks so much.

Is there a chance that it is The Rose Of Tralee that you seek?

Aah, Bonny Lad!

When aah recorded 'Death Of A Soldier' with Ron (before aah did it on me own CD) aah asked him aboot 'The Rose Of Trelawney'

Apparently there ISN'T (or wasn't) such a song - It wez just a title that Ron thought up.

After some discussion aah suggested that mebbe Ron should write the song then! So he did!

It's on his "American Ghosts" CD but neither his website or his MySpace site have that paretic'lar track on there.

Paul Sirman does a crackin' version if memory serves.

Gan on Ron Trueman Border and find oot where he's ganna be and get te hear him dee it first hand!
